Lucky 15 Tips: LIVE ITV Newmarket L15, Thursday

It's Day 1 of Newmarket's July meeting on Thursday, so a terrific vehicle for our Lucky 15 tips.
Three Group races might make the headlines but the whole seven-race card, starting at 13:50, is outstanding. Enjoy what I'm sure will be a fantastic afternoon's sport - and the first four on the card are LIVE on ITV.

*odds correct at time of publication
13:50 Newmarket - Galiyan @ 4/1
1m 5f G3 - the Bahrain Trophy, for three-year-olds.
Our selection Galiyan was favourite for the Queen's Vase at the royal meeting but was 3l adrift of the winner Limestone at the finish. Del Maro, who reopposes, fared slightly better (beaten by just a nose); same can be said of another rival today Point Of Law (about 1.5l ahead of our pick).
Galiyan was pretty wide at Ascot (drawn nine of 11), and it was only his third-ever racecourse appearance. The colt is by a smart miler but there's a stamina influence as the dam's by Monsun, a G1 winner in Germany at around 12f.
With further improvement almost guaranteed and the draw here of far less import over Newmarket's vast acreage, Andrew Balding's charge is taken to strike, for jockey Oisin Murphy.
14:25 - Adaay Of Scarlett @ 15/8
G2 July Stakes, over 6f, for two-year-olds.
Our selection is a Mehmas colt trained by Hugo Palmer and ridden once again by the champ, Oisin Murphy. Adaay Of Scarlett ran in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and was beaten just half a length.
Godolphin field a mightily impressive Blue Point colt who won his maiden in an eye-catching manner at York at around the same time, but that's his solitary start so far while 'Adaay' has had four runs in tip-top company, winning two of them.
Quite simply, he's my NAP on the card. Form in the book at lofty levels, brilliant trainer of juveniles, generational jockey engaged.
15:00 Newmarket - Calico Blue @ 6/1
Class 2 sprint handicap now, over 6f, for three-year-olds.
Calico Blue is a colt by ironically a Coventry Stakes winner, and ran well at Royal Ascot in the 5f handicap behind runaway winner Bacio (beaten 4.75l). That's very smart form in a field of 27 and he's won two of his five starts to date.
He steps up to 6f today, a trip he revelled in for his first three runs (won twice), and as he was finishing strongly at Ascot it's probably a good move. Roger Varian trains, and Ray Dawson has the riding assignment.
He's off the same mark today as last time, 93, and the yard are in fine form.
15:35 Newmarket - Almeric @ 7/1
G2 over 12f, for three-year-olds and upwards.
I'm in danger of following this four-year-old colt over the proverbial cliff but, trying a new trip, today might be a good day to catch him and at a decent price in all likelihood too.
It's that duo of Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy again, and though Almeric has got a bit to find on official figures with likely favourite Rebel's Romance he could appreciate the mid-distance tempo and is by a French Derby winner who finished 4.5l behind Enable in the Arc, so certainly grounds for optimism there.
Races in the famous silks of Miss Kirsten Rausing, and has bags of ability as shown especially last autumn.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £830 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
