Lucky 15 Tips: True Love can land the Guineas glory

Another excellent week of racing comes to a close on Sunday, but with a bang rather than a whimper. Newmarket hosts the 1000 Guineas, which isn't to be missed, while the day's other meetings are Cork, Sligo, Hamilton and Salisbury.

The 1000 Guineas isn't the only race of note, as there's also the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes and a couple of very competitive handicaps. There's £100,000 on offer in the Betfred Handicap and four of the races will be live on ITV.

Here are four strong fancies across the card to consider putting into a Lucky 15 and amongst them is a very smart Aidan O’Brien-trained filly in the day’s main event.

14:20 Newmarket - Falakeyah @ 9/2

FALAKEYAH got her career off to the perfect start when bolting up in a Wolverhampton maiden back in November 2024. Slow to get going and keen in the early stages, she still managed to kick clear and score by over five lengths on that occasion.

She returned in May the following year and was an impressive winner of the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at this meeting. Stretching clear to score by three-and-a-quarter lengths, she won in the style of a potential Group-class filly.

The wheels came off slightly and she was below-par in two subsequent runs. Connections have been patient and it's likely that she can progress as a four-year-old.

14:55 Newmarket - Align The Stars @ 13/2

There's a massive prize fund on offer in this Betfred-sponsored heritage handicap and stamina will be a key consideration in this 1m6f event. With that in mind, Charlie Johnston's ALIGN THE STARS looks like a very strong candidate, having proved he stays further.

Don't forget there's an extra place on offer with Betfred for those tempted by an each-way play, but the five-year-old should be capable of coming out on top. He was a comfortable winner over two miles on the all-weather at Kempton last time out and a 4lb rise is fair.

15:35 Newmarket - True Love @ 15/2

Aidan O'Brien is seeking an eighth victory in this race and he has two excellent fillies running this year. Precise may well need the run on her first start of the season, but his other runner, TRUE LOVE, had a prep run at Leopardstown last month and might have an advantage.

She was victorious in that Group 3 over 7f and although she has to prove her stamina over a mile, there's evidence on her dam's side that the extra furlong will be fine. Winning at Royal Ascot last summer, she also managed to land the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes.

17:20 Newmarket - Study Of Words @ 7/4

Charlie Appleby has 94 winners from 309 runners at Newmarket in the last five seasons, with a strike-rate of 30 per cent, which is very healthy indeed. Newmarket's closing handicap has attracted a small field and STUDY OF WORDS is the obvious candidate.

He was a narrow second on his first start over 1m2d in a decent race at Goodwood on his second start, before he took a big step forward when winning a course and distance maiden by 15 lengths on his final start of last season. A big run could well be on the cards here.
