Lucky 15 Tips: Notable Speech to bounce back at Newbury

Friday 15th May 2026, 17:25

There’s a little something to cater to every racing fan’s tastes on offer on Saturday, with Flat and National Hunt action amongst Britain and Ireland’s eight meetings across the day.

Britain’s best racing is provided by Newbury and Newmarket and there are eight races live on ITV across the afternoon. Navan provides some Listed action in Ireland and further meetings from Wexford, Thirsk, Bangor, Doncaster and Uttoxeter also on the agenda.

Here are four of our expert’s strongest fancies from Newbury and Newmarket, which can be combined to form a Lucky 15, and Charlie Appleby is well set for Group 1 glory.

Lucky 15 Tips - 16 May 2026

  • 14:35 Newbury – Notable Speech @ 9/2
  • 14:50 Newmarket – Forty Years On @ 7/2

14:35 Newbury – Notable Speech @ 9/2

Charlie Appleby hasn’t been operating at the sort of strike-rate that he normally would but he has landed several winners in the last fortnight and there are numerous reasons to expect that NOTABLE SPEECH can return to form and win the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

Fourth in this race last year, he looked in need of the run on that occasion and connections have learnt from that, giving him a prep run at Keeneland last month.

He won back-to-back Grade 1s at Woodbine and the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar last term and is arguably the one to beat here. It’s easy to forget that this horse won the 2000 Guineas and the Sussex Stakes at three and this doesn’t look like the strongest renewal.

14:50 Newmarket – Forty Years On @ 7/2

George Scott runs the very progressive filly FORTY YEARS ON and she’s lightly raced enough to suggest there could be loads more to come from her this year.

Unbeaten in three starts on turf, she got off the mark with a narrow success over 7f at Doncaster in July.

She followed up under a penalty over a mile in novice company, before completing her hat-trick on handicap debut at Ascot in September. Scott’s filly was narrowly denied when second on the all-weather last time out and a return to winning ways is anticipated.

15:10 Newbury – Albert Einstein @ 9/4

Aidan O’Brien will probably be a little disappointed with ALBERT EINSTEIN so far this season but the son of Wootton Bassett has been presented with an excellent opportunity to get back on track here.

He was expected to be special last season and we haven’t seen the best of him just yet. Winning a maiden at Naas on debut in May 2025, he then went on to win the Group 3 Marble Hill Stakes, despite having a terrible passage into the race.

It was understandable that he needed the run when below-par in a Listed contest at the Curragh on his return and it was a better effort when third in the Greenham.

Dropping back to 6f is likely to suit on that evidence and a big run could be on the cards.

15:45 Newbury – Port Of Spain @ 4/1

Don’t miss the £100,000 London Gold Cup at Newbury, as we could get some decent pointers for Royal Ascot’s King George V Stakes. Aidan O’Brien doesn’t have too many handicap runners so it’s noteworthy that he sends PORT OF SPAIN here.

His trainer was complimentary of him in his stable tour and he expects a significant amount of improvement at three. Port Of Spain won a Punchestown maiden in September and wasn’t beaten far when third in a 1m1f Group 3. Don’t rule out a big run on handicap debut.

If all four selections win at the quoted prices, a 50p Lucky 15 (total stake £7.50) would return around £705.
