Lucky 15 Tips: Workahead can progress over fences

The Epsom Derby was the big highlight of the weekend and we were treated to some excellent racing, as Aidan O’Brien landed a record-extending 12th win in the Classic. Although there are no Group 1s on offer on Monday, there is still an abundance of competitive racing from Roscommon, Windsor, Pontefract, Leicester and Carlisle on the agenda.

Here are four strong fancies on Monday to consider putting into your multiples, including a Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding who should be capable of progressing over fences. Check out my Lucky 15 Tips down below.

16:53 Carlisle – Star Cast @ SP

Gemma Tutty’s STAR CAST has been on the go since October and the hardy four-year-old has won four times over that period. The progressive filly is showing no signs of stopping either, having won two of her last three starts, and she remains ahead of the handicapper.

Her best trip appears to be 1m2f as she managed to win on the all-weather at Newcastle and on the turf at Ripon last month. She was probably outstayed when third of six over an extended 1m4f at Musselburgh and a stiff 1m1f should be much more to her liking.

18:18 Roscommon – Workahead @ SP

Henry de Bromhead’s WORKAHEAD was a promising novice hurdler a couple of seasons ago and comfortably got the better of the useful William Munny when winning a maiden by seven lengths at Leopardstown in December 2024.

Things didn’t quite go to plan in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle but he acquitted himself well when a good second in a Grade 3 race at Gowran in February. He made his first start over fences at Wexford last month and scored by a comfortable margin of seven and a half lengths.

You would imagine there is plenty more to come from him over fences, especially at this sort of level, and none of his seven rivals pose an obvious threat.

18:48 Roscommon – Harbour Highway @ SP

Rocky’s Diamond’s presence in this race means that Emmet Mullins’ HARBOUR HIGHWAY is technically a couple of pounds out of the handicap but it’s very possible that he’s significantly ahead of the handicapper, especially as Aidan Kelly takes 3lb off too.

He earned his first chase success at Leopardstown back in March and he showed a good attitude to score by half a length.

Mullins’ seven-year-old wasn’t beaten far at all when second at Limerick last month and a repeat performance will give him every chance.

The step up in class is noted but the yard does well with staying handicap chasers and there should be more to come.

21:00 Pontefract – Call Me Betty @ 3/1

Michael Dods has been amongst the winners recently and two of his last three runners have come out on top. That definitely bodes well for the in-form CALL ME BETTY, who is adaptable with regards to trip and was a winner over 6f last time out.

She was a very comfortable winner over 7f at Newcastle in October but looked badly in need of the run over the same course and distance on her first start of the season.

Leaving that run well behind her at Carlisle last time, she can go close again off just a 2lb higher mark.
