Lucky 15 Tips: Hughes can be a Roarin’ Success at Catterick

There are four meetings taking place in Britain on Tuesday, including jumps racing from Catterick and Leicester.

Tuesday's Lucky 15 tips focuses on those National Hunt cards, with a Brian Hughes-ridden mare set to open her account over timber at Catterick for trainer Donald McCain Jr.

14:00 Catterick - Roarin' Success @ 4/1

The opening maiden hurdle at Catterick over just shy of two miles is likely to see Itsinthename prominent in the betting, with Sean Bowen booked to ride on hurdles bow for Nick Schofield.

However, a more attractive option at this point is ROARIN' SUCCESS for trainer Donald McCain and former champion jockey Brian Hughes.

The Roaring Lion mare was a mid-80s-rated Flat performer and won three times in that sphere.

She was well held on hurdles bow over C&D in December, but improved to finish second at Newcastle in a maiden over 2m1f last month, well clear of the third behind the easy odds-on and progressive winner Gaelic Rover that Hughes partnered for Ruth Jefferson.

There should be further improvement to come and she gets 7lb from Itsinthename.

15:20 Leicester - Palawan Du Mazet @ 2/1

Two-and-a-half-miles is the trip for the Ladies Day 4th July Novices' Handicap Chase at Leicester and PALAWAN DU MAZET is taken to build on last month's Taunton win (2m2f, heavy).

That made it 2-3 over fences for Alan Jones' Papal Bull gelding, both wins at Taunton and his defeat coming over the same C&D in December, when he understandably looked in need of the run after 310 days out.

He was strong at the finish 21 days ago, has conditions underfoot to suit once more and looks ready to defy a 6lb rise over this slightly longer trip.

16:00 Catterick - Not A Light @ 4/1

There is lots of winning form on show in this handicap chase at Catterick, with the likes of hat-trick seeking Paddy O'Mahler and Heeztheboy - winner of four of his starts for his current connections - in the mix alongside Impatient and Chasingouttheblues, with the quartet all recent winners in this discipline.

One who hasn't won over fences is NOT A LIGHT for the Philip Hobbs & Johnson White yard. He shaped well on second chase start at Wincanton (3m1f, soft) as he chased home Dan Skelton's Major Fortune - who has gone close since from 5lb higher in a better race at Newbury.

This mark of 111 looks like one he can exploit on open handicap company and Callum Pritchard takes a handy 3lb off.

16:50 Leicester - Jet Plane @ 4/5

JET PLANE was a warm order for a Hunters' Chase at Warwick last month off the back of his 2m4f handicap success here in December and a fine second at Sandown off 137 in early January.

He was bowling along at the head of affairs and seemingly enjoying his spin until he misjudged the 12th fence and gave Heidi Palin no chance of keeping the partnership intact.

He only had one previous fall, coming over hurdles at Warwick in December 2021 when the race was at his mercy, and he responded by winning a month later at Ludlow.

He looks the classiest of this quintet and can atone not under Sean O'Connor.

If all four selections won at the quoted prices, a 50p win Lucky 15 would return around £201 for a £7.50 total stake.
