It's a great pleasure to be able to say that Tuesday's Lucky 15 tips will come from Newmarket! Yes, it's that time of the year at last.
The action kicks in at 13:15 for a seven-race card, and there are a host of the biggest names in the sport doing battle. Can't wait ...
Lucky 15 tips - Tuesday, April 14
Newmarket
*Odds correct as of the time of publication
13:50 - Shadow King @ 7/4
A 5f two-year-old novice to start us off, and an unraced Dark Angel colt with just the right sort of connections.
Shadow King hails from the Richard Hannon yard and they're masters when it comes to juveniles. The colt runs in the prolific colours of the executors of the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, and the excellent Sean Levey is in the plate.
The horse has an early closing entry into one of the big sales races at Donny in September, and is highly likely to know his job. Great chance, fingers crossed, of making a winning debut.
15:00 - Startled @ 7/2
Class 4 handicap over 7f now, and a Richard Hughes-trained/William Buick-ridden Bated Breath three-year-old - Startled.
Contested a £23k Class 2 contest at Lingers in February, going down by just 0.75l, and that was after winning a Nottingham nursery off 66 in October.
Certainly showed ability then and I love the booking of Buick, who has few peers full stop but especially when it comes to this track. He had a winner at Yarmouth the other day and is one almost certain to post excellent numbers again this campaign.
Runs off 76 today, up just a pound for that super effort in Surrey last time.
15:35 - Dyonisos @ 7/2
Older horses go 5f in this Class 3 heat, and we're with Will Buick once again.
Godolphin's main man has been engaged by dual-purpose trainer Ian Williams to ride his Dyonisos, a four-year-old French-bred gelding who runs in the familiar silks of Mrs Fitri Hay.
Three wins from 18 starts, our selection last ran in late-February at Meydan off 85, beaten just 1.5l at this trip, running on. He reappears off the same mark this afternoon and gets Buick for the first time.
He's held in decent regard I reckon at home because former jockeys to have had the privilege include Christophe Soumillion, Billy Loughnane, Callum Shepherd and Kieran Shoemark.
16:10 - Darn Hot Gallop @ 11/2
Wide-open looking Class 4 handicap, over a mile, for three-year-olds.
Darn Hot Gallop is in the care of James Tate here at HQ, and is another appearing in familiar racing colours; those of Jaber Abdullah. She's unbeaten in two spins, both in November last - a Wolverhampton maiden and a Newcastle novice.
The second of those wins was achieved in very taking fashion with a much-improved Racing Post rating, and however fanciful or not it might be, she holds an early-closing Betfred 1000 Guineas entry on the first weekend of May.
Lovely race this, sure to be massively informative going forward, and this daughter of Too Darn Hot can I'm sure give us a run for our money.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £420 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
