Thursday 5th March 2026, 17:46pm

Good racing is to be found in a variety of spots on Friday, and I'm happily off to Ayr for our Lucky 15 tips.

Their six-race card gets underway at 14:20 and apart from some of the north's finest the O'Neills are here, with Jonjo Jr having a couple of nice-looking chances.

14:50 - Roses All The Way @ 15/8

Powerhouse combo of yesteryear Brian Hughes and trainer Donald McCain unite in this 2m 4f mares' novices' hurdle with the seven-year-old daughter of Derby and Arc hero Workforce - Roses All The Way.

She's had just eight starts, winning once over timber which happened to be last time out 19 days ago at Musselburgh. It was a career-best-equalling effort on Racing Post ratings, and 7.5l was the winning distance.

The third has come out and been beaten less than a length at Kelso, and I feel the selection offers terrific value against the likely favourite La Zoubida.

15:50 - The Coffey Boy @ 4/1

Highly promising 5lb conditional William Maggs rides this seven-year-old gelding, for Ayrshire trainer Ian Duncan.

The Coffey Boy tackles this 2m Class 5 handicap hurdle, a qualifier bearing the name of the great Sea Pigeon, my favourite-ever racehorse and for me the finest dual-purpose flyer that ever gazed through a bridle (in my humble opinion).

Might have to give that assertion some more thought if Constitution Hill starts tearing it up on the flat!

What memories, in the case of both these magnificent champions.

Anyway - back to the matter in hand. Our selection is one-from-six all told and again that one was last time out, on this course over 4.5f further, prevailing narrowly 24 days ago off a mark of 90.

He must defy a 4lb hike in this, but I'm encouraged that connections feel this is a good target and as he was emptying fast a few weeks ago this drop in trip could be spot on.

He'll probably look to make all.

16:20 - Thank You Blue @ 7/2

Another hurdle qualifier, a Class 4 handicap, over 2m 4.5f.

The selection is a nine-year-old gelding by Blue Bresil, out of a Kayf Tara mare - fabulous NH breeding profile then ('Blue' is the sire of Constitution Hill no less).

The splendidly-named Thank You Blue is a very respectable six-from-29 all told, and would you believe it is another last-time out scorer. In fact - he's on a four-timer, for trainer Jennie Candlish and 3lb claimer Lewis Stones.

They're running off a mark of 114 this afternoon, but in such rude order it might still be within compass.

16:53 - Nights In Venice @ 10/3

A 3m Class 5 handicap chase now, and a course winner trained in the Borders by Donald Whillans.

The yard's in great nick just now, with two winners from their last seven runners, and saddle ten-year-old Midnight Legend gelding Nights In Venice.

This one was only second on his last spin, at Kelso three weeks ago, but it was a mauling; weakening quickly close home and being eased right down. That was on heavy ground, and over 2f further - slightly less punishing conditions are expected here, fingers crossed, and it's not quite as far distance-wise.

Prior to that disappointing but perhaps understandable performance he recorded a couple of decent efforts including one in a slightly higher grade at Musselburgh.

This isn't a potent heat and jockey Sean Quinlan, on top at Kelso for the first time, encouragingly retains the partnership.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £370 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
