Lucky 15 Tips: Fishery Lane can come out on top at Leopardstown

There are four meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland on Monday, with the rare treat of some Listed action from the Emerald Isle at the start of the week. Leopardstown hosts the Listed QuinnBet Handicap Chase, as well as six other races, while Southwell stages National Hunt action in Britain.

Kempton’s afternoon all-weather card features a Class 3 handicap and Wolverhampton takes us through the evening. Our expert has picked out four strong fancies across the day, including the potentially unexposed Fishery Lane at Leopardstown, who forms part of our Lucky 15 tips.

15:25 Leopardstown – El Fabiolo @ 8/15

Willie Mullins’ EL FABIOLO was a high-class chaser in the not too distant past but the wheels fell off for a while, as his jumping fell to pieces.

He made his return to hurdles in a similar race at Punchestown on New Years’ Eve and he was a comfortable winner that day.

The drop back to two miles, combined with a return to Grade 1 company, didn’t achieve the desired result in the Irish Champion Hurdle last time out and he should feel more comfortable at this sort of level, especially as the race conditions are in his favour.

He’s the best horse in the race according to the handicapper so the fact that he gets 5lb from Maxxum suggests that the nine-year-old will be very hard to beat.

15:55 Leopardstown – Chiefs Kingdom @ 5/1

Winless in 11 starts over hurdles, all but one of Paul Nolan’s CHIEFS KINGDOM'S previous runs over hurdles have come in maiden company.

There were signs of improvement on handicap debut last time out and further progress is anticipated.

The son of Soldier Of Fortune stuck to his task well when third by less than a length here last time out and the handicapper’s 3lb rise is offset by Eoin Staples’ 5lb claim.

Staples is worth every pound of that and this race looks like the perfect opportunity to get off the mark.

16:25 Leopardstown – Fishery Lane @ 17/2

It’s rare to see an Irish Listed contest which Willie Mullins has failed to win in the last decade but he has two chances to put that right here and FISHERY LANE gets the nod.

Paul Townend has picked stablemate Quai De Bourbon but that could prove to be a mistake.

Fishery Lane won a maiden hurdle over 2m4f at Fairyhouse in good style last year and has been a little unlucky over fences this season, bumping into a couple of very smart stablemates.

16:37 Kempton – Spanish Voice @ 6/4

Andrew Balding’s SPANISH VOICE could hardly be less exposed on handicap debut here and he looks like a horse to follow for the time being. Third at Kempton on debut over a mile, he improved to get off the mark in a Newmarket novice over 1m2f back in April.

The son of Lope De Vega was an impressive winner of an admittedly average race under a penalty at Lingfield last month but that was his first start for over 300 days and he’s entitled to improve for the run.

An opening mark of 85 looks very workable and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ends up making a mockery of it.

If all four selections won at the quoted prices, a 50p win Lucky 15 would return around £325.35 for a £7.50 total stake.
