Lucky 15 Tips: Champ Buick with several Kempton chances, Wednesday

Our recent approach during this spell of horribly wet conditions has been to utilise the all-weather fixtures, and it's a policy that still looks very prudent. We were among the winners yesterday (Hollie's 11/2 shot was especially sweet) so more of the same, please.

With that in mind we're heading to Kempton's Polytrack on Wednesday, October 9, for our Lucky 15 tips. There's a competitive NINE-race card, which kicks in at 16:12. Let's get to it -  and I'm feeling an each-way play coming on, channelling lots of Will Buick ...

17:45 - Nightbird @ 11/2

Will Buick rides this Highclere Thoroughbreds two-year-old for trainer(s) Simon & Ed Crisford.

Nightbird has run five times so far without quite getting her head in front, but those appearances have been very creditable. She starts her first nursery off a mark of 75, and being drawn in the two box is no hardship.

Over her last four spins she's been beaten by a total of only around 6.5l, and Will is flying - 27% strike-rate over the past fortnight.

Buick is up top for the first time today, and on what she's achieved she ought to be bang there. With any degree of improvement, always highly possible with juveniles, it might just be her day, and a fitting reward for the excellent consistency shown so far.

18:15 - Scarlet Princess @ 7/2

I'm looking to Buick to follow-up here, but the rationale for once is a little on the light side.

Scarlet Princess is an unraced two-year-old Kingman filly out of a Nayef mare representing Charlie Appleby, whose strike-rate is up there with William's at present.

Won't be hard then to envisage the Godolphin filly playing a huge part in this, handily drawn in the one box for good measure. The yard are masters with juveniles, and with precious little public form on view from any of the runners I'm very happy to row in with one of Newmarket's most lethal combinations.

19:15 - Mezzo Soprano @ 4/1

Far more experience on show here with this four-year-old daughter of Exceed And Excel, another in the care of the Crisfords, and do you know what - a certain 36-year-old Norwegian-born jockey is once again doing the steering.

Buick has ridden the horse before but it was Harry Davies who finished a close-up second on her a fortnight ago, but he's due to ride at Nottingham. Mezzo Soprano has won three races all told, including one here at this trip and under this pilot, who may well have been engaged whatever Harry was up to.

She races off the same mark as last time, 83, and is my idea of the winner.

19:45 - Aspire To Glory @ 8/1

Don't we all! This one reaches for a 7lb claimer and has just been dropped a pound in the handicap to 47, too. Lots of positives then.

Aspire To Glory is a modest performer in a suitably humble little event, but the three-year-old Cotai Glory gelding is very experienced, having run on 19 occasions already for trainer Alice Haynes.

This is his lowest mark to date and he has won previously, claimer-ridden, off 52 in January. If Anna Gibson (just one win so far this year I believe) can time it right she could come with a wet sail and down the lot of 'em!
