Lucky 15

Just the one winner yesterday, so no laurels to rest upon. Onwards and upwards then on Wednesday, Feb 7th - and I just love typing 'February.'

Because we all know what month comes next, don't we?

Excellent racing today courtesy of Fairyhouse, Sedgefield and Ludlow (jumps), with an all-weather early evening card on Kempton's Polytrack surface.

Oisin Murphy, Mr and Mrs Marquand, Rossa Ryan - there's a stellar cast assembling in Sunbury-on-Thames, and so it's a natural source for our Lucky 15 suggestion today.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £489 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips Wednesday

Kempton

  • 18.30 - Gunfighter @ 2/1
  • 19.00 - Greatgadian @ 10/3
  • 19.30 - Stoic Syd @ 3/1
  • 20.30 - Fast Affair @ 15/2

18.30 - Gunfighter @ 2/1

Oisin Murphy is whizzing around at present - both in the US and domestically, preparing for the flat season proper on turf that's fast approaching. He's riding at Kempton tonight, and has four very well-fancied bookings.

He's aboard Gunfighter here for trainer Hugo Palmer, and won on the horse at Wolves in December. He appeared again at Lingfield 3 weeks ago under Rossa and finished with purpose to be beaten just half-a-length. Same mark today, 85, and trip, 7f - and the 3-yr-old has a progressive profile.

There could well be more to come, starting this evening. This is a very decent little Class 4 handicap featuring some nice types.

19.00 - Greatgadian @ 10/3

We're rowing in with Oisin again, this time on a King Power-owned Roger Varian-trained 6-yr-old gelding.

Greatgadian's last two runs have been at 7f, and he's finished well in both, making late gains without quite troubling the judge. Touch of quality about this Class 2 contest, and the selection has a Lincoln Handicap entry, another signpost proclaiming spring isn't too far away, mercifully.

He's rated 92 these days, but has been as high as 102 in the past. His last run, 29 days ago at Southwell, was almost up there with any previous efforts and Murphy has ridden the horse once previously, which is a plus.

He steps up to a mile tonight, which looks another bonus. Good race.

19.30 - Stoic Syd @ 3/1

Several last-time-out winners, including our selection Stoic Syd. Ivan Furtado trains the 4-yr-old Zoffany gelding, and Marco Ghiani rides.

13 days ago he sluiced up at Southwell in a Class 5 off 48, and he's up just 2lbs today. He achieved a career-best Racing Post rating for that last spin and is evidently in great heart right now.

He's only run once here before which isn't perfect, but a mile seems to be his absolute ideal right now after last time's first attempt at eight furlongs. It could well unlock a new level of form, one we glimpsed at Southwell. Another peep tonight would be appreciated.

20.30 - Fast Affair @ 15/2

A Class-dropper as the Americans would say, trained by the evergreen James Fanshawe at Newmarket and ridden by claimer Joe Leavy.

This is a 4-yr-old Cracksman filly who's generally campaigned at 8-10 furlongs. Today she gets the opportunity to stretch out over 1m 3f and on breeding alone that would appear to be a very sound plan.

She took a race at Wolverhampton in October off a mark of 57, and is just a couple of pounds higher today. Bright chance in my book, for her noted trainer; and Joe's 7lb claim is another powerful argument in her favour.
