Lucky 15 Tips: Ponte Carlo break-time – you can bank on it

Midweek greetings, dear reader. Thanks for your company, and how about a relaxing trip to beautiful Ponte Carlo, for their six-race card that kicks in at 14:30? Two good winners at Catterick yesterday, and one pipped by inches in a photo - decent start to the week.

15:00 - Sanaam @ 7/4

Two-year-old colts go 6f in this maiden contest.

Sanaam is a newcomer from the Newmarket yard of Simon & Ed Crisford; by Blue Point out of a Sea The Stars mare. The stable is in flying form right now, operating at a 33% strike-rate over the past 14 days.

Jockey Danny Tudhope is almost as hot (28%), and the stable's juveniles have struck eight times from 21 starts - that's an impressive 38%, and 10 of them were placed.

Loads in this one's favour then and I'm backing that he knows his job alright. The nine box isn't perfect draw-wise but over 6f, and with so many similarly inexperienced types, there's enough time to get organised.

16:05 - Missmimi @ 7/2

Time now for a five-year-old Equiano mare trained by Cleveland handler Tina Jackson.

Sprinter Missmimi has two wins from 18 lifetime starts and for the last 12 months has been a model of consistency, invariably running a fine race, hunting up the principals.

She's a winner here too - always a bonus - and though more of a Class 6 animal than a Class 5 these days looks to have a lovely racing weight of 8st 12lb in the context of this heat.

The excellent Jo Mason, who knows her well, has the riding assignment.

16:38 - New York Minute @ 2/1

Backed this one at Glorious Goodwood last week, and he wasn't disgraced (2l behind the winner, in a mile-and-a-half contest).

New York Minute was rallying and staying on on the Downs and that's a good thing - as connections are stretching out to the extreme trip of 2m 1f this afternoon.

It looks decidedly worth a shot for this three-year-old gelded son of Wootton Bassett, out of a Galileo mare, and he's in another barn that's pretty darn hot right at this minute, too - Ralph Beckett (24%).

The excellent Hector Crouch is doing the pushing (21%), and I bet the groom's winning best turned out awards like they're going out of fashion. Just a hunch.

Fascinating.

17:08 - May Blossom @ 10/1

The lucky last features another batch of 6f sprinters, and experienced ones at that.

The selection is May Blossom, a six-year-old Mayson mare, dam by Dutch Art, so certainly bred to be able to peddle a bit in her higher gears. Respectable handicapper's strike-rate (eight wins in 56 races), the last of which was around this time last year on this very racecourse, off a mark of 76.

She's rated 70 now, and showed her present well-being by finishing just half-a-length adrift of the winner 27 days ago at Carlisle in the grade/trip.

Ryan Sexton rides for North Yorkshire trainer Julie Camacho, so adept especially with sprinters, and this is a brilliant little heat with which to bring the curtain  down.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
