Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

Lovely start yesterday with the first selection dancing in at 11/4 (returned 3/1), but alas we couldn't back it up. Double the odds for a single winner though softens the blow nicely. Onward and upward then on Wednesday, and time to visit Lingfield for its nine-race jamboree on their Polytrack surface.

The action kicks in at 11:20, so here are our Lucky 15 tips for Wednesday, December 4. Good luck if you're playing.

Lucky 15 Tips - Wednesday, December 4

Lingfield

  • 11:50 - Blue Secret @ 4/1
  • 12:50 - Pershalla @ 6/1
  • 13:50 - Local Hero @ 9/2
  • 15:25 - Overnight Oats @ 1/1

Today's Horse Races

11:50 - Blue Secret @ 4/1

We're on parade early at Lingers - and there's already been one race! We kick off with a William Haggas-trained two-year-old Blue Point filly, having her fourth career start.

She's quietly progressive, and when last seen 32 days ago at Newmarket Blue Secret was fourth in a 7f novice (beaten 2.75l). She makes her handicap bow in this nursery off 74 and shaped perfectly well on an all-weather surface (Tapeta) at Wolves on the second of her outings (narrowly denied, after a troubled early passage).

Her top yard has had two winners from its last six runners and those that are on the active list at Somerville Lodge are evidently in good heart. Marco Ghiani rides.

12:50 - Pershalla @ 6/1

Another two-year-old, this time in the care of Amanda Perrett at Pulborough. Dancing Brave country, when her legend of a Dad Guy Harwood once held the reins so gloriously.

Pershalla is a Persian King filly out of a Frankel mare, with two runs behind her. Not really sighted at HQ on debut, but well in the mix here 15 days ago in a novice at this one mile trip, beaten 3.25l.

Jason Watson rides, and it's a lovely little heat with some good yards represented. My nap of the day.

13:50 - Local Hero @ 9/2

More experience on show now, as the three-year-olds and upwards tackle a 7f Class 3 handicap.

The selection Local Hero was here three weeks ago in a similar affair and was beaten just a length (races off the same mark today). The performance was up there with anything the colt has achieved previously and he has a very creditable two wins from seven career starts to date; plus two placed efforts.

The outstanding Richard Hannon trains, and talented claimer Joe Leavy takes off a valuable 3lb.

15:25 - Overnight Oats @ 1/1

A four-year-old gelding in rude form, looking to land a three-timer.

Overnight Oats won off 46 at Wolves a couple of outings ago, followed up five days later at the same Midlands venue, and comes here after a further 18 days has elapsed looking to defy his new mark of 55.

HQ trainer James Owen is making quite a name for himself, primarily with jumpers, but it's worth noting that this one has been rated in the mid-70s as recently as the spring and the yard, having had the horse since August, are slowly but surely restoring some of that old gloss.

It's another for jockey Jason Watson, so it's fingers crossed that it's a red-letter day for him.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £460 for your total £7.50 stake.
