Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins (2)

Wednesday - and Day Two of Goodwood's Glorious get-together, dear reader. Yesterday's bet kicked of with a 13/2 winner (returned 8/1 - we struck later with a 4/1 chance too) so we've got plenty to live up to. Let's get our Lucky 15 tips in and see if we can't trouble the judge once again this afternoon on those captivating Downs. The action proper kicks in at 13:20 (there's an Arab race at 12:45) and the lucky last is scheduled for 16:55.

If you're playing, good luck - and above all, have fun.

13:20 - Sudu @ 9/2

Three-year-olds go a mile-and-a-half in this Class 2 handicap.

The selection is a gelded son of Teofilo, Sudu, who has one victory to his name in five career starts. Interestingly that win was achieved last time out, in an emphatic career-best to boot, scoring by 7l at Epsom on July 2 off a mark of 75.

This is not only an appropriate hike to a Class 2 but he's now rated 86 after that romp in Surrey. Looking to overcome this lift will be Brazilian ace Silvestre De Sousa, on board when Sudu made his debut back in October of last year.

De Sousa is outstanding, Roger Varian is very happy to use him whenever appropriate, and given the nature of that last spin this might be a massive improver just waiting to snaffle a prize of this magnitude.

Being out of a Dubawi mare he really is bred to go a bit at around this distance and could be a good deal better than he's shown us thus far.

13:55 - Tabiti @ 10/3

A 7f Group 3 now for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and over.

Just under half the 14-strong field that are slated to face the starter are at the lowest end of the age scale for this, and it's a three-year-old that provides my selection - Tabiti, a gloriously-bred progressive daughter of Kingman.

Two fine juvenile wins, including a G3 at Salisbury, then rather bombed in the Fillies' Mile at HQ in October, fading late in the piece. Over the top for the year perhaps?

On seasonal reappearance she was an excellent second in the Sandringham at the Royal meeting (beaten 2l in a field of 25), under Juddmonte's new retained jockey Colin Keane. He's currently serving a potentially very expensive suspension and connections have reached out to Ryan Moore.

She's got a lovely racing weight of 8st 13lb with the older horses on 9st 6lb, and this lightly-raced filly is ideally situated with Ralph Beckett, so adept with horses of this nature carrying these legendary silks (see file marked Bluestocking/Arc winner).

Fantastic heat; mouth-watering and then some.

14:30 - Lady Iman @ 6/4

Ryan Moore is super-subbing again for Colin; this time on a Ger Lyons-trained two-year-old Starman filly - Lady Iman.

At the Curragh 32 days ago in a G2 the selection was beaten 2l by Beautify, over 6f. Today's Molecomb trip is the minimum 5f, a distance over which Lady Iman beat Aidan O'Brien's True Love in May, and that filly impressively took the G2 Railway Stakes 10 days ago by a yawning 5l - and all that after winning the Queen Mary in June!

Strong form then, and this G3 should really be well within compass. No hardship whatsoever that she gets a bit further, and being drawn in the two box isn't perhaps the drawback it might have been either, given the fairly small field (just eight are expected to start).

What a day it could be for Moore, a master anywhere/anytime of course but especially on the biggest stages.

15:45 - Bintjeddah @ 8/1

I think the rough translation from Arabic for this is 'Jeddah Girl.' Having spent a year living and playing football there some time ago I was perhaps drawn subliminally towards this one, but there's little doubt that she has all the right credentials to be super-competitive.

Bintjeddah is trained by the red-hot William Haggas at Newmarket (a stonking 35% success rate at time of writing, over the last 14 days). Drawing 8st 5lb probably excludes stable jockey Tom Marquand so the excellent Hong Kong-bound Dave Probert has the riding assignment.

Last time out 34 days ago at HQ she was a running-on second in a lesser event off 81, and steps up to 10f now from a mile in a loftier grade and rated 2lb higher.

Sire Too Darn Hot tried this trip just once and nearly won the Dante, but the stamina-angle is better represented by dam Pinkster, no form line whatsoever there but she was by the mighty King George and Eclipse winner Nathaniel, who got to within half-a-length of a certain colt named Frankel, on debut.

This is a bold move by her high-flying yard but one that could well bear fruit, fingers crossed. A fascinating heat with which to wrap up Wednesday's Lucky 15.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £600 for your total £7.50 stake.
