Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins (2)

For Wednesday's Lucky 15 tips I'm venturing across the Irish Sea to Dundalk, in County Louth. All-weather Polytrack action then, and the racing is invariably ultra-competitive and very well-supported. Stacks of big names are in attendance and it's sure to be lots of fun.

We were nicely among the winners at Sedgefield yesterday, and any repeat would be most welcome.

Lucky 15 Tips - Wednesday, November 27

  • 15:55 - Harry's Bar @ 4/1
  • 16:55 - Tribal Star @ 6/4

Today's Horse Races

13:43 - Fortune Vera @ 11/2

Nice to kick-off with one from the yard of 'Joey O' - the former high-class Grade 1-hoovering jockey-turned-trainer, Joseph O'Brien.

Fortune Vera is a once-raced two-year-old filly by Footstepsinthesand, out of a Dansili mare. That one spin was an eye-catching effort, running-on, in a course and distance maiden under the brilliant Billy Lee 19 days ago.

Joseph goes for an accomplished claimer this time, Wayne Hassett, to relieve the burden by a useful 5lb, and with any normal improvement plus the added racetrack exposure, she's entitled to be absolutely bang there.

15:25 - Morning Approach @ 9/2

Could hardly visit without supporting one of the aforementioned Mr Lee's mounts, now could I?

Big fan of William James Lee, and in Morning Approach he has an experienced, consistent handicapper who has slipped to a very appealing handicap mark.

Now six, the Dawn Approach mare races off 61 today after being beaten 1.5l in a similar heat 19 days ago. Her mark remains unchanged from that excellent run under Lee, finishing with purpose in a field of 14.

She's won here before at the trip, for this jockey, and her turn might just be close at hand.

15:55 - Harry's Bar @ 4/1

A well-travelled nine-year-old warrior with Stephen Thorne now, and ridden by Ronan Whelan.

Very familiar with winning on this course, Harry's Bar arrives fresh from three second-placed finishes in a row - two here, and one on the beach at Laytown.

The Exceed And Excel gelding remains competitive, and at this very decent level, too. Nine-year-old flat horses are fairly commonplace in the States for example, but not so much in the UK/Ireland. Let's hope he's got a few more crackers in his locker ...

16:55 - Tribal Star @ 6/4

Now to an ex-Charlie Appleby-trained three -year-old, in the care of Adrian McGuinness at Lusk.

Tribal Star is by Sea The Stars but has already been gelded - before he raced, in fact. In five career spins so far he's achieved a very consistent and respectable level of form without quite managing to get his head in front.

He's eminently capable of taking a maiden, and surely it's a matter of when and not if. Jockey Adam Caffrey claims a handy 3lb, and for me it's time to strike gold.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £500 for your total £7.50 stake.
