Wednesday Lucky 15 Tips: Shadwell inmate could be the one

Racing on Wednesday March 27 comes from Wincanton and Hereford (jumps), while there's all-weather action courtesy of Kempton's early-evening Polytrack gathering. 

There's seven contests from the Sunbury-on-Thames track so that's where we'll go for Wednesday's Lucky 15 tips. Many of the sport's top jockeys and trainers are present, and high-quality entertainment looks assured. We'll play each-way today for a change, as we're selecting at least a couple at very attractive prices.

17:30 Kempton - Mukafaah @ 11/4

Not hard to get excited about a Blue Point colt out of a Frankel mare, racing in the famous Shadwell silks.

Mukafaah is a three-year-old trained by Kevin Philippart De Foy and will be ridden by 'the man' when it comes to these colours, Jim Crowley. Two career spins to date - a sighter at Yarmouth, getting the hang of it late on, then a dominant performance here winning unchallenged, at this trip.

Massive improvement shown then, but it's guesswork as to how he's prospered since. If he's wintered well he could be an exciting horse for 2024. On what he's done so far, and that special breeding, I'm definitely keeping on his right side.

What a lovely race, full of highly promising types.

19:30 Kempton - Burdett @ 7/2

More three-year-olds, and a competitive-looking mile handicap.

Jack Channon trains, and Charles Bishop is doing the steering. Burdett won his maiden at Ffos Las, and reappears now for what is his fourth career start. He was gelded earlier this month, while Jack had a winner just over a week ago. I like the trainer and feel he'll have selected this contest carefully.

20:00 Kempton - Two Past Eight @ 11/2

A 2m trip to negotiate here, a selection trained by Alan King, and to be ridden by Rossa Ryan. The pair have struck on many occasions in the past couple of seasons and Ryan needs little by way of introduction to regular readers of these columns.

This combination went down by just half-a-length last month in a blanket finish over course-and-distance, after a less-than-smooth passage. The four-year-old gelded son of Derby winner Sir Percy was doing his best work at the finish, and if Rossa can plot a calmer route this time he's every chance of adding to his two career wins to date.

Unsurprisingly, given his trainer, they were achieved over hurdles, but he's threatening to open his flat account. Tonight could be the night.

20:30 Kempton - Libra Tiger @ 8/1

A basement 6f sprint handicap with a very experienced field assembled.

Libra Tiger is trained by Laura Mongan at Epsom, and will be ridden by the excellent Danny Muscott. The five-year-old gelding is a course-and-distance scorer, and has won at Sandown too.

Interestingly, both wins were achieved off a mark of 68, and he lines up tonight on 65. He's dropped slightly in class, and reportedly hung left last time here when looking to challenge.

Being drawn in the one box on this right-hand track his opportunity to hang should be severely limited, as he'll find most of the field just to his left. That should keep him on the straight and narrow with luck, and he can run well at what is for me an attractive price.
