Lucky 15

I've 'enjoyed' a couple of days off, listening to the wind howl. As mini-breaks go I'm not sure it will catch on, and I'm delighted to be back in harness. Sport's a fabulous distraction, as long as the roof stays on.

We were in fine form at the end of last week, with both Friday's piece and the Saturday ITV offering yielding good winners. As for today, Fairyhouse, Catterick and Chepstow provide Wednesday's jumping entertainment, with all-weather flat action taking place at Lingfield and Kempton.

We're heading to the latter venue today as there's a competitive-looking seven-race card at the Sunbury-on-Thames Polytrack circuit.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £430 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips Wednesday

  • 17.30 - True Blue Gent @ 4/1
  • 18.00 - Lunario @ 7/2
  • 20.00 - Turner Girl @ 11/4
  • 20.30 - De Vega's Warrior @ 7/2

17.30 - True Blue Gent @ 4/1

The Middleham Park Racing syndicate raid here with a 3-yr-old Zoffany colt having his fifth career start.

Marco Botti trains, and PJ McDonald rides. He was on board last time here in a similar contest, when True Blue Gent was second after racing prominently. First-time blinkers were fitted, and he appeared to benefit. The jockey will know more about the horse this time, the blinds are retained, and it doesn't look like a deep contest.

18.00 - Lunario @ 7/2

Lunario recently joined the yard of Alice Haynes and makes his debut for her today. The 4-yr-old has been sparingly campaigned, but there were promising signs the last day (here, in Oct) with a second-placed finish over a furlong less, running on.

The mile today then looks ideal, and if one thinks the great Billy Loughnane was booked to ride last time it's evident connections believe the colt has talent. Claimer Christian Howarth (3lb) is on top this evening and cheekpieces are applied to aid Lunario's concentration. Big chance in my book.

20.00 - Turner Girl @ 11/4

An in-form Ed Dunlop mare, once again ridden last time by one B. Loughnane. She was denied by the minimum distance on that occasion at Newcastle just 5 days ago, and rocks up here to hopefully go one better.

Versatile trip-wise, it was ten furlongs in the north-east and she tackles a mile-and-a-half today. No issue there, as the 5-yr-old daughter of teak-tough Mastercraftsman gets two miles. Ran off 69 at Newcastle - same mark today. Jockey Morgan Cole claims a handy 5lb too.

20.30 - De Vega's Warrior @ 7/2

Talking of 2 miles - a Class 5 handicap at the trip to close proceedings, and an experienced Mick Appleby-trained gelding in De Vega's Warrior. The 5-yr-old finished a very good second under the superb Tom Marquand at Southwell 19 days ago in this grade, and has flirted with Class 4 action and better in the last 12 months.

Ali Rawlinson, on top once previously, again takes the mount and he looks dangerously well-handicapped to me off 67. Mick is an all-weather master, and a very bold show is expected.

Good luck!
