Lucky 15

Wednesday looms into view, and our Lucky 15 will come from the all-weather Tapeta surface at Southwell. Love the sand - and with top talents like Hollie Doyle and Rossa Ryan in attendance, to name but two, it's not remotely difficult to get enthused.

We had at least a couple of winners yesterday - going to press just before the last has performed - so we're still in fair nick. AND the nap of the day for Tuesday won at 11/2. Marvellous. Right - stand by your beds ...

Lucky 15 tips, Wednesday

  • 18:00 Southwell - Abolish @ 4/1
  • 19:00 Southwell - Isle Of Sark @ 9/4
  • 20:00 Southwell - Miss Moonshine @ 17/2
  • 20.30 Southwell - Master Of Combat @ 7/2

18:00 Southwell - Abolish @ 4/1

Rossa Ryan has been booked for Tony Carroll's experienced eight-year-old gelding, and this one takes a drop in both trip and class.

5f is the test that awaits today, and Abolish has been running well over 6f and even 7f! I always have the feeling this track takes more getting than, say, Lingfield or Wolverhampton (though nothing like the 'old' Fibresand Southwell, where they generally finished like 3m chasers).

5f here could be spot on, and that little class drop appeals - he was only beaten just over 2l last time and the jockey booking screams 'chance.'

19:00 Southwell - Isle Of Sark @ 9/4

Six-year-old US-bred gelding, with the outstanding Saffie riding for Dad Jamie Osborne.

Isle Of Sark has been second on his last two starts, beaten inches including over course-and-distance a couple of weeks ago. The naughty old handicapper has sneaked him up a pound for his consistency, but he still looks like a winner-in-waiting to me.

Won his maiden when trained in Ireland by Joey O, and left O'Brien for Osborne in May 2023. Hasn't scored yet for new connections, but has a fantastic chance to put that right tonight.

20:00 Southwell - Miss Moonshine @ 17/2

A four-year-old Rod Millman filly in decent form, and benefitting from his claimer's 7lb reduction.

Miss Moonshine is admirably consistent at this level and won at Lingfield on New Year's Eve off a mark of 52. She races off 55 tonight, and when you consider that Hollie Doyle has taken the mount a couple of times of late it's evident she's cherished by connections.

She's won three races all told and been placed on many occasions. 'Miss' tends to race prominently, and from the two box can get a good early spot to plot her way around and into a challenging possie late on - fingers crossed.

20.30 Southwell - Master Of Combat @ 7/2

The lucky last - a one-mile Class 4 handicap.

Master Of Combat had the mighty Rossa on top last time, failing by just a length over the trip but in a slightly higher grade. Ryan rides one for the Horse Watchers here, a powerful owning syndicate, so 'Master' gets Jack Mitchell, who knows him well enough.

His mark of 80 is unchanged from that narrow reverse and he evidently loves it at Southwell, running really well on a couple of occasions. He's drawn one, is invariably held up, but they seldom fail to get a run up the straight here.

The field tends to fan out all over Nottinghamshire, and Jack can sneak up the inside and into late contention. Huge chance for me.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £735 for your total £7.50 stake.
