Lucky 15 Tips: Now Barbie’s off to Southwell on Wednesday!

Won't be long now - but in the meantime let's enjoy a lovely, sunny (fingers crossed) late afternoon/evening at Southwell for Wednesday's Lucky 15 tips.

Their eight-race card kicks in at 16:55 and if I say that among the top jocks present are Hayley Turner and Rossa Ryan, you just know it's going to be special.

18:00 - Margot Robbie @ 3/1

I tipped up this smashing five-year-old mare at Newcastle 26 days ago (doesn't time fly when you're having fun), and she obliged very nicely. Cue Barbie reference of choice ...

Margot Robbie evidently goes well here too, having narrowly been denied  about three weeks before that success in the north-east. She's got a career-high mark of 52 to overcome which is 5lb higher than that last time out success but she's lightly raced, having had two considerable breaks from the action (266 and 403 days respectively).

Plenty of cause for optimism then that she can continue to improve, and her evident well-being allied to course comfort gives me bags of hope that another success can be had for trainer Geoff Oldroyd and the excellent man on top, PJ McDonald.

Always remember - life in plastic is fantastic. Apparently.

18:30 - Spirit Of Jura @ 7/1

Time for another fragrant legend - one with even more substance. It's the Queen of Southwell, Hayley Turner, and her only booked ride on the card.

She's struck up a fine partnership with Spirit Of Jura, a three-year-old Masar filly out of a Duke Of Marmalade mare, trained by Charlie Johnston on Middleham Moor.

The union betwixt horse and rider has yielded two wins thus far, one of them here, and a modest run at Kempton five weeks ago needs to be ignored, as that track places more emphasis on finishing kick than here in my view.

It's more of an attritional arm-wrestle up this straight, and very few if any come there swinging with a double handful and skip away merrily.

A bit of Johnston inmate grit and Queen Hayley magic can see them home once again.

20:00 - Market House @ 5/4

My best bet on the card for what it's worth - a super-consistent in-form gelding raiding from Newmarket.

Market House is housed with James Owen, and Sean D Bowen takes the mount. Last time at Newcastle eight days ago he was an excellent second over a marathon trip (just over 2m), and he steps back to 1m 3f today. Same mark, slightly higher grade - but in great heart.

James took control of the horse in February, and four spins since then have yielded two wins, a second and a third. New connections will be hoping for another score and the five-year-old is certainly a tough cookie, having several hurdle runs with his original Irish trainer as well as action on the level and even a point-to-point!

20:30 - Balgowan @ 4/1

Another game and consistent staying type looks to break their maiden after 21 so far fruitless attempts.

Balgowan is a six-year-old gelding by Australia and 12 days ago came mighty close, at this venue, to that milestone first win when going under by just 1.5l. He's 3lb better off this evening with an adversary from that very same race, Fiftyshadesaresdev, who re-opposes.

George Downing has the riding assignment and knows the horse well. Same trip/grade/mark as the last day (2m and change, Class 6 and 53).

Terrific chance.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
