Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins (2)

My eyes are drawn to a seven race midweek card at Ludlow, with the likes of Nico de Boinville, Sean Bowen and Harry Cobden in attendance. That'll do nicely.

First race is at 14:00, and the beautiful Shropshire course that I last visited many, many moons ago will provide our Lucky 15 tips for Wednesday, February 19. Two winners yesterday, including the Nap of the Day (advised 6/4, won at 11/4), so we're in half-decent nick.

Lucky 15 Tips - Wednesday, February 19

Ludlow

  • 14:30 - Pike Road @ 2/1
  • 15:35 - The Hardest Geezer @ 3/1
  • 16:10 - Kelce @ 6/5
  • 17:13 - Super Sabre Sam @ 5/2

Today's Horse Races

14:30 - Pike Road @ 2/1

Jockey Sean Bowen, by his very lofty standards, is relatively quiet at the moment. Notwithstanding what he might have done yesterday he's had 'just' seven winners in the last couple of weeks, but I'm very hopeful that this one will add to that tally.

Martin Keighley trains this six-year-old gelded son of the mighty Yeats, and Sean's ridden him twice previously (second on both occasions). Pike Road is very lightly raced - only four runs under rules so far - and last time 19 days ago at Catterick was very respectable, going down by just 4l in a warm handicap over slightly further.

Back in maiden company and down in trip today he can do the business nicely.

15:35 - The Hardest Geezer @ 3/1

The Hobbs/White training axis is not quite in the form they were a couple of months ago either, but it's not hard to see their representative going mighty close in this.

The Hardest Geezer is another lightly-raced six-year-old gelding, having start number six today. He won his maiden 42 days ago at Taunton, proper Philip Hobbs country of old, and he enters life as a handicapper off 118, carrying topweight of 12st. The fourth home that day has since scored, most encouragingly.

He's still unexposed, with hopefully lots of improvement to come with further racecourse experience. Fine chance.

16:10 - Kelce @ 6/5

No Super Bowl this year for Kansas City's Travis, but a huge chance for this seven-year-old gelded namesake to put the Kelce name back firmly front and centre. Last time he fell at the last, looking held, but previously had scored at Market Rasen readily, jumping well, at this trip.

It's a race for amateur jocks and this Neil Mulholland-trained conveyance gets the excellent and experienced Gina Andrews up top. She had a winner just over a week ago and can notch up another on Wednesday afternoon.

17:13 - Super Sabre Sam @ 5/2

Another Neil Mulholland inmate, this time partnered by the outstanding Brendan Powell.

Super Sabre Sam is a six-year-old Black Sam Bellamy gelding who won his maiden at Fontwell in October and has since run in two handicaps, the best of which was easily the last one 31 days ago at Windsor.

He was beaten 6l there but was staying on nicely at the finish (2m 4f), and he gets an extra 300 yards or so today to help get organised. Brendan knows the horse from previous outings and this might just be a promising type.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £140 for your total £7.50 stake.
