There's a nine-race extravaganza with our name on it - at Kempton Park, Wednesday December 18. Super-competitive Polytrack action that kicks in at 16:05.

Not much sand on view apart from around the top bend at the greatly-anticipated King George meeting that starts on Boxing Day - but for now we'll just salivate quietly about that whilst concentrating on the flat. You know it makes sense.

Today's Horse Races

17:10 - Charlie Mason @ 9/4

Ton-up Tony - Mr Carroll, who's just hit the century of flat winners in a year for the first time!

Warm congratulations to the Worcestershire-based trainer, and I hope he's got a few more up his sleeve before New Year's Eve - starting with Charlie Mason, the mount of Rossa Ryan.

This one went very close in a similar affair at Southwell just eight days ago (beaten less than a length) and connections go back to the well for some Xmas-present cash perhaps. Rossa's been on board the last twice so knows the three-year-old gelding well enough at this stage. Cracking chance.

17:40 - Pearl Of Hope @ 10/11

Maiden fillies, juveniles, race at 1m.

The mighty Appleby/Buick combo is in full cry here with Pearl Of Hope, by Dubawi, with one excellent run only under her belt, at HQ. She was green that day 88 days ago, beaten 4l, and the winner has gone on to run really well in a Listed event at Newbury.

Several of her rivals have yet to see a racecourse, and her experience can prove vital.

18:10 - Zabeel Rain @ 5/2

Fabulous second division of the above contest, as two-year-old maiden fillies' race over a mile - and none of them have had a run yet!

My selection Zabeel Rain is by Epsom Derby winner Masar, and she makes the long-ish journey from the Middleham Moor base of Charlie Johnston. Nice to see Rossa engaged - typically in demand from so many yards - and I can't see connections making such a trip without high hopes. Fascinating heat, and one to savour.

19:10 - Ingra Tor @ 6/1

An old hand now, a sprint handicapper in the hands of Jack Channon at West Ilsley in Berkshire.

Five-year-old Ingra Tor, a gelded son of Churchill, ran a cracker in a slightly lower grade at Wolves 74 days ago, he's been given a little freshen-up, and tackles a Class 2 now with 3lb claimer George Bass doing the steering.

Jack is proving to be an extremely able heir to Dad Mick's training establishment, and though not prolific on the all-weather, this one has won previously at Southwell. Decent draw, in the five box.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £220 for your total £7.50 stake.
