Lucky 15 Tips: Alec at the double at Catterick

Lots of good racing around on Wednesday - and I'm maintaining our recent Yorkshire theme (two good winners yesterday) by visiting Catterick for their six-race programme that gets underway at 14:30.

Alec Voikhansky is an apprentice attached to the Hannon yard that I rate very highly, and he's got two cracking chances for the stable this afternoon. They will account for half my Lucky 15 tips - and with talents like Paul Mulrennan and Danny Tudhope among the other pilots on show I'll certainly not struggle for any additional inspiration.

15:00 - Shetakesthegold @ 11/4

First up we have a two-year-old nursery handicap, and that potent combination I alluded to in the introduction - trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Alec Voikhansky.

Shetakesthegold has appeared on four occasions, the last of which was in her first handicap. Off a mark of 55 this daughter of Havana Gold was a running-on second, beaten less than a length, at Lingfield.

She comes out just eight days later off the same spot (55) and at the same trip as that last spin, 6f, after having run exclusively over the minimum 5f previously.

The step up seemed to suit and Alec still claims a very useful 3lb. Great chance.

15:30 - Rose Of Spain @ 10/11

Two-year-olds again, this time in a novice stakes contest. Will Buick no less was booked to ride this one on debut at Haydock 16 days ago, finishing a decent second, closing late.

Rose Of Spain races in the famous Jaber Abdullah silks and is an Irish-bred Phoenix Of Spain filly in the care of Richard Hughes, who sensationally took down the G1 July Cup at Newmarket last week with No Half Measures, at 66/1. He's probably still on cloud nine-and-a-half.

That solitary outing is bound to assist in terms of knowing what the demands of raceday entail and with the excellent Danny Tudhope booked to ride I can see further success, albeit at a slightly lower level, for former top-drawer champion jock 'Hughesie.'

16:00 - Mrs Bagerran @ 7/2

Tracy Waggott brings this admirable seven-year-old Kodiac mare down from County Durham off the back of a neck defeat at Musselburgh over this 5f trip just 15 days ago.

Mrs Bagerran isn't a prolific scorer (three from 46), but is in great heart just now. Prior to that close-run thing in Scotland she won a similar contest at Ripon with a degree of comfort off 46 and is just a pound higher now, on 53, than for that recent near-miss.

William Pyle gets along well with the horse and claims a handy 3lb. She tends to blaze the trail out in front and is drawn beautifully to do just that here, in the one box. Expect a bold show from the front and let's hope she can repel all would-be boarders!

16:30 - Wheels Of Fire @ 7/2

Claimer Alec is doing the steering once again, this time on board a Fitri Hay-owned Hannon-trained three-year-old son of Mehmas - Wheels Of Fire.

Quite experienced this one - his nine ruins have produced one victory, at the minimum trip last term on the sand at Lingers. Ran well over 5f last time 33 days ago but steps back up to 6f today, his regular gig; and after some ordinary efforts he gets a one-pound reprieve from the handicapper AND of course Voikhansky's 3lb claim.

I'm hoping this will trigger something of a revival off 79 today, as only last summer he was campaigning and winning off 84.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
