Lucky 15

One cracking winner yesterday courtesy of the wonderful Hollie Doyle, but we just couldn't quite back it up.

Wednesday's menu looks like this; jumping action from Hereford and Fontwell, with all-weather fare at Dundalk and Kempton. A brilliant cast-list is assembling in Sunbury-on-Thames, so that's where we're headed for today's Lucky 15 suggestion. A nine-race card, too - how's that for value?

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £960 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips, Wednesday

Kempton

  • 18.30 - Crystal Casque @ 5/1
  • 19.00 - Batal Dubai @ 5/4
  • 20.00 - Red Royallist @ 11/1
  • 20.30 - Storm Valley @ 9/2

18.30 - Crystal Casque @ 5/1

Oisin Murphy has been secured to ride this grand veteran for trainer Rod Millman, and the combination have been successful before here, in June 2020.

The 9-yr-old chestnut mare was third in a higher grade over a furlong-shorter trip 3 weeks ago at this venue, and remains a consistent threat, having won twice since September.

19.00 - Batal Dubai @ 5/4

The great Rossa Ryan is in the plate for trainer Harry Charlton, emerging solo now from Dad Roger's side at their Beckhampton base.

Batal Dubai is a Middleham Park-owned 4-yr-old gelding who's already won four races. He's risen through the sprinting ranks and often contests these Class 2 affairs. He ran on New Year's Day after a little freshening-up break (74 days) and was second at Newcastle.

Can lead, or be held up. In this small field it might get tactical, and that versatility could stand him in good stead. Fascinating little heat.

20.00 - Red Royallist @ 11/1

Billy Loughnane rides; and here's another smashing veteran reminding us on Valentine's Day that age is just a number.

In Red Royalist's case that number is 10; and he's had one or three trainers in that time, too. Presently he's with Mike Murphy and Michael Keady in Bedfordshire, and in this ordinary-looking Class 5, with 'The Kid' on top, he can get competitive.

20.30 - Storm Valley @ 9/2

I'm plumping for Storm Valley in the lucky last, a 4-yr-old filly in the care of Matt Crawley.

She was second at Wolves in this grade nearly a month ago and only joined Matt from the powerful Andrew Balding yard in December. Jockey Callum Shepherd went close on her, again at Wolves, so new connections are almost hitting the right notes and her mark of 52 remains unchanged from those promising efforts.

If you're playing, have fun - and good luck.
