Do not use lucky 15

With five British and Irish meetings taking place across Wednesday there's lots of racing action to cater for all tastes.

The Flat card from Beverley features seven races from 14:15-17:20 on ground forecast to be Good to firm, good in places. We've picked out our Lucky 15 tips at the Yorkshire venue, including the colt Prosperitas as he sets about improving on an eyecatching debut effort at Thirsk.

Lucky 15 Tips - Wednesday, August 14

  • 14:15 Beverley – Prosperitas @ 7/2
  • 14:45 Beverley – Stanhope Gardens @ 8/11
  • 16:15 Beverley – Respectful @ 14/1
  • 16:50 Beverley – Mariner @ 10/1

Today's Horse Races

14:15 Beverley – Prosperitas @ 7/2

Every runner in the opening 5f restricted maiden is open to any amount of improvement, but TJ Kent's PROSPERITAS should take all the beating if he can build on his eye-catching debut effort at Thirsk last month.

Despite being very green on the day, the son of No Nay Never got the hang of things in the closing stages and ran on well into third. He has a good inside draw in stall three and looks the one they all have to beat with further improvement very likely in the hands of Callum Rodriguez.

14:45 Beverley – Stanhope Gardens @ 8/11

In the following extended 7f maiden there are a couple of interesting newcomers to note, including Sir Mark Prescott's King's Hand who was picked up for 78,000gns and has a lovely pedigree.

However, from those with a run under their belt, Ralph Beckett's STANHOPE GARDENS could prove hard to beat. His sales price shot up to 210,000gns as a yearling and he ran with plenty of promise on his debut when third behind a smart Godolphin winner in a 7f maiden at Sandown last month.

There should be more to come.

16:15 Beverley – Respectful @ 14/1

Likely to be a decent price, Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole's RESPECTFUL might surprise many with a huge run in the extended 7f handicap with the red-hot Gina Mangan in the saddle.

Mangan is excellent value for her 3lb claim and this three-year-old looked progressive when scoring back-to-back to round off his campaign last year when trained by Karl Burke.

He hasn't looked the same horse this year in handicap company, but this is just his second start for his new yard and he has had a wind operation, while the first-time tongue strap could be a help too.

16:50 Beverley – Mariner @ 10/1

The final selection in the Beverley Lucky 15 is MARINER, who runs in the 1m2f handicap.

Trained by Jessica Macey, the son of Kingman didn't run his race at Doncaster last time but it was a stronger race than this and a reproduction of his penultimate run when second at Leicester down at this sort of level would put him bang there with a big chance.

Ben Sanderson takes off 3lb in the saddle so he's effectively 3lb lower in the weights now, so don't rule out a big run.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £830 for your total £7.50 stake.
