Tuesday's racing programme consists of jumps action from Hereford, turf contests on the level from Thirsk, and flat, all-weather heats on Southwell's Tapeta surface.

The seemingly relentless rain continues to bring soft and worse to the turf arenas, and it's not hard to be swayed towards Nottinghamshire's seven-race sand card, especially with the likes of Rossa Ryan, Jim Crowley and Billy Loughnane parading their considerable talents in the saddle.

Lucky 15 tips Tuesday

  • 17:30 Southwell - Masterclass @ 11/4
  • 18:00 Southwell - Isle Of Sark @ 6/4
  • 19:30 Southwell - Imperial Empress @ 4/1
  • 20:00 Southwell - Bazball @ 3/1

17:30 Southwell - Masterclass @ 11/4

A five-year-old Lethal Force gelding trained by Dave Simcock, and ridden by Callum Shepherd, who had a winner yesterday at Lingfield.

Masterclass has been very busy this year, and has contested the occasional loftier battle than this Class 5 contest. Two runs ago, over course-and-distance, he failed by less that a length, off a mark of 68. He operates today from 69, the same as Lingfield last time when not quite getting into it close home but still only going down by 1.5l.

I get the feeling this consistent type, in decent nick right now, has an imminent win in him. Let's hope it's on Tuesday.

18:00 Southwell - Isle Of Sark @ 6/4

Another in fine form, and stepping up for a first try at 1m 6f.

Isle Of Sark only gave best to Liseo late on eight days ago at Kempton, and the six-year-old US-bred gelding keeps finding the odd one too good. Connections will doubtless be hoping the extra distance can unlock a wee bit of improvement, and a win would be most deserved and definitely not out of turn.

Father and daughter Jamie and Saffie Osborne bid for more success here, often such a happy hunting ground.

19:30 Southwell - Imperial Empress @ 4/1

Three-year-olds now, for a decent Class 4 novice over 7f.

Imperial Empress has had four runs, and has improved slightly for every one of them. Her stable, that of Andrew Balding (24% strike-rate over the last 14 days), is in good order, and Callum Hutchinson, claiming 3lb, takes the mount.

This for me is her most realistic target to date, and I'm very hopeful of a bold show.

20:00 Southwell - Bazball @ 3/1

Another stable having winners, that of Karl Burke, for a Class 4 fillies' handicap over 7f.

Didn't get competitive last time at Newcastle over 6f eleven days ago, but that was in a red-hot Class 2 All-Weather Championships Finals contest. Down to a Class 4 today, and her outstanding trainer can be relied upon to have carefully selected this test, up a furlong, to resume more competitive ways.

She's contributed three wins in a fairly busy career to date and can make it four on Tuesday.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £248 for your total £7.50 stake.
