Lucky 15

Tom Marquand advertised his class at Lingfield yesterday with a double, but the second-place he earlier secured for us was our only near-flirtation with the winners' enclosure.

Jumping action this afternoon, Tuesday Feb 6th, comes from Market Rasen and Taunton, with Wolverhampton providing flat, all-weather racing in the early evening on Dunstall Park's Tapeta surface.

Seven races at the Midlands venue, and the likes of Hayley Turner, Billy Loughnane and Cliff Lee are in attendance. Let's have a closer look and use it for our Lucky 15 suggestion.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £786 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips, Tuesday

Wolverhampton

  • 18.00 - Dark Enigma @ 5/2
  • 18.30 - Tonal @ 4/1
  • 20.00 - Katstar @ 15/2
  • 20.30 - Warminster @ 9/2

18.00 - Dark Enigma @ 5/2

Jockey Cliff Lee rode this one 46 days ago in a maiden here, at a huge price. The run was respectable enough and he resumes the partnership on the 3-yr-old filly's handicap bow today.

Trainer Eoghan O'Neill raids from his County Kildare base in what looks an ordinary little contest, and retaining Lee is very much a plus for me. No heroic predictions, but it looks a good opportunity. (NB - this one is being strongly backed this morning).

18.30 - Tonal @ 4/1

Trainer Ian Williams is having winners at present (6 in the last fortnight), and his Tonal lines up here with a very bright chance.

Tonal made his handicap debut at Chelmsford last month, finishing a close-up third. It was only the 4-yr-old gelding's second run for Williams after joining the yard from France in December.

This is just his fifth career start and with any improvement at all looks sure to figure this evening for his in-form yard.

20.00 - Katstar @ 15/2

This one has been campaigned so far at 8.5f in three runs to date, and all here at Wolverhampton. The 4-yr-old gelding is nicely bred, by Sea The Stars out of a Dubawi mare, and today's pilot Hayley Turner is the only jockey thus far to have sat on him on a racecourse.

He now drops down to 7f and I can't say he's achieved much on the track so far - but for me this is all about promise, breeding, a superb top-drawer jockey and a trainer in Harry Eustace who had a winner here just the other day - with Hayley on board.

Katstar could leave his novice/maiden form behind tonight and this doesn't look the most severe of tests from what we've seen so far, as pretty much every rival appears a little more exposed than the selection.

He's rated 60 for this initial foray into handicaps, and it will be fascinating to see how he fares.

20.30 - Warminster @ 9/2

This one is knocking loudly on the door in some warm little contests of late for the grade.

Trainer Katie Scott raids from north of the border, and regular recent pilot Phil Dennis again takes the mount. Second here off a mark of 61, the naughty old handicapper has popped him up a pound for his consistency, but the 4-yr-old gelding is running as well as ever right now.

For a horse with a prominent running style he's drawn well in the 3 box, and 11 days after that last excellent effort he richly deserves to get his head in front today in this cracking little heat.
