Lucky 15 Tips: It’s in the genes with Ned

A new week is upon us, Goodwood is but a memory, and the summer of sport marches on relentlessly. Fairly quiet in terms of the number of meetings on Tuesday August 6th, but what we do have will doubtless be terrific. I'm heading to Ffos Las, and an interesting six-race card that kicks in at 14:35.
Some of our sport's top jocks are here - Rossa Ryan among them - so I'm delighted to be bringing Tuesday's Lucky 15 Tips to you from Carmarthenshire.
Lucky 15 Tips Tuesday
Ffos Las
14:35 - Boldly @ 2/1
The opener is for amateur jockeys, so be prepared, potentially, for a 'range' of abilities to be on show.
It's not hard at all though to fancy the four-year-old Galileo gelding Boldly. He's in the care of top trainer George Boughey, and his pilot is from clan Sangster - bred in the purple all right, in terms of racing dynasties.
Jockey Ned is a grandson of the late Robert, the game-changing owner who forged the kind of partnership in the 70s/80s with Lester Piggott and Vincent O'Brien that Aidan, the Coolmore 'lads' and Ryan Moore enjoy today.
I believe Ned Sangster has had just the one winner thus far, but this might with luck be number two. At Yarmouth just 12 days ago Boldly was beaten less than a length at this trip and he's down one rung in class today - but races off the same mark, 75.
Big chance for Middleham Park Racing then - and interestingly he used to be owned by Messrs Smith, Tabor, Magnier etc. Spooky ...
16:15 - Spirit Of The Rose @ 2/1
Slightly more routine fare, and a selection ridden by one the season's leading lights who lit up the latter stages of Goodwood last week.
Rossa Ryan is aboard this Clive Cox-trained three-year-old Showcasing filly, who is dropping a notch in class but has been raised 3lb for her excellent run at Haydock 18 days ago (beaten a head).
After just five runs she's still a maiden but Haydock signalled that her turn, in only her third handicap, could be close at hand. Runs in the colours of another legendary owner, Cheveley Park.
16:50 - Salamanca Lad @ 7/4
This is the only booked ride I can spot on the card for Jim Crowley, another to advertise his considerable talent on the Downs last week.
Thank goodness for that bit of luck Jim had with Al Aasy on Saturday in the Group 3, as the leader rolled away slightly from the rail to allow his late, killer challenge.
For me, every course should have a cutaway - to ensure the field fan towards the centre of the track for the last couple of furlongs. Nothing worse than to see your hope fail for want of a bit of room to challenge late on.
Salamanca Lad meanwhile is with the Kublers, and the three-year-old Profitable gelding is on a sensational four-timer. The fear is that the handicapper has finally caught up with him - he's up 14lb since the first of those recent three wins - but six days since the last success he's back, and connections will hope that Jim can finesse him home.
17:20 - King Affection @ 5/1
A three-year-old gelded son of Kingman now, in the colours of King Power Racing.
Andrew Balding trains, and David Probert rides. Welshman Probert was born around 60 miles away from the track in Bargoed, Caerphilly, and it always seems to me that he has his share of winners here and at Chepstow. Home form, and all that.
King Affection has been very ordinary in three maiden/novice contests at 10f, but steps up to 12f here and makes his handicap bow in what I hope is a very ordinary affair, with plenty of exposed types.
He's with a top yard, has a fine jockey, and isn't highly-tried. At a value price he can hopefully oblige!
If you're playing take care, and as always, have fun.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £209 for your total £7.50 stake.
