Lucky 15 Tips: Ace North Yorkshire trainer can prosper

Southwell stage a NINE-race Tuesday card on their Tapeta track, and that's where I'm heading for our Lucky 15 tips. Amazing to think that this time next week I'll be penning the Day 1 Cheltenham Festival L15, and doing similar through to the meeting's Gold Cup climax on Friday. Heady stuff.

16:30 - West Tyrone @ 2/1

The Hambleton maestro Kevin Ryan brings a three-year-old gelding by a G3-winning, middle-distance sire down from his North Yorkshire base to contest this mile handicap.

Four runs to date, showing quietly progressive form, and particularly useful last time 24 days ago at Newcastle, beaten a short-head off a mark of 67 in his first handicap. He's only been raised a pound for that, and West Tyrone looks like a winner waiting to happen to me - hopefully on Tuesday afternoon.

Tom Eaves, on top last time, once again is in the plate. The trainer has another with a big chance in the 19:00, True Promise, and a good night's work beckons.

17:00 - Spec Of Light @ 6/5

Rossa Ryan rides for Shropshire-based shrewdie David Loughnane.

Spec Of Light is a three-year-old Muhaarar gelding with four runs under his belt, again showing pleasing progress culminating in a very close second at Southwell at this trip 17 days ago.

He pops up a notch in grade to a Class 5 and has been raised 5lb - but it was 5l back to the third the last day and any reproduction of that performance (or even improvement, which is highly feasible) can see a first career victory in the hands of one of our brightest-shining jocks.

18:30 - Haaland @ 3/1

I tipped this one up 45 days ago at Lingfield and he was a little disappointing in all honesty - to my eyes at least.

Haaland is a five-year-old gelding whose turn looked to be close at hand and was backed in to favouritism the last day. He'd previously run well without quite getting his head in front at both Wolverhampton and Kempton, and perhaps the Lingers race came a bit too soon (10 day gap) from the previous spin?

These are extreme distances after all, but after a nice little freshen-up break he can oblige here for Jim and Suzi Best. Aiden Brookes, claiming 3lb, gets the riding assignment.

20:00 - Mr Nugget @ 11/4

The now-famous colours of Amo Racing, with a four-year-old Oasis Dream gelding who knows where the winning post is here.

Mr Nugget recorded that victory 17 days ago, even though jockey Billy Loughnane dropped his whip just over a furlong from home. The assessor has raised Dave Simcock's charge 5lb and he now steps up into Class 5 company; but last time was a career-best and he's certainly going the right way.

David Egan takes the mount as with many for this owner, and for me he goes in again.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
