L15 Punchestown

It's always an exciting week - the Punchestown Festival in Ireland, rammed with superstars who may have excelled at Aintree, Cheltenham, or have perhaps been kept to one side with this meeting in mind.

Willie Mullins is invariably absolutely lethal here (where isn't he?) and it makes great appeal to visit the track for our Lucky 15 tips. Here goes then, for Tuesday's opening blitz. If you're playing, enjoy, and good luck! The eight-race card kicks-off at 14:30.

Lucky 15 Tips Tuesday

Punchestown

  • 15:40 - Slade Steel @ 11/8
  • 16:15 - Daddy Long Legs @ 4/1
  • 17:25 - Dinoblue @ 15/8
  • 18:00 - Monty's Star @ 5/2

15:40 - Slade Steel @ 11/8

It's not at all difficult to get excited about Henry De Bromhead's Slade Steel. The six-year-old gelding won the Supreme Novices' Hurdle impressively at the Festival, resisted any thoughts of Aintree, and rocks up here at Punchestown with a favourite's chance.

The runner-up at Cheltenham, Mystical Power, did take in Liverpool, and scored narrowly in the Top Novices' Hurdle. He'll be a tough nut to crack but I believe the form will be confirmed.

Both have won here before and Slade Steel is proven over further, which is a very useful additional string to his bow. Terrific contest in prospect.

16:15 - Daddy Long Legs @ 4/1

An intriguing Listed handicap hurdle, and a five-year-old Almanzor gelding in the care of Willie Mullins. He races in the famous Donnelly silks, synonymous with so many gifted NH champions.

Willie only took delivery of Daddy Long Legs from France in November, and after dotting up in his maiden he's been very highly tried, including a pasting at the hands of the exceptional Ballyburn at Leopardstown in February.

He came to the UK six days ago to aid his trainer's successful UK championship bid and easily took a little hurdle contest at Ludlow. The experience won't have been lost on him, and a mark of 135 might be navigable.

This is a red-hot contest and will be very instructive for form students.

17:25 - Dinoblue @ 15/8

A cracking field for the Festival's Champion Chase. Cheltenham's hero at the trip Captain Guinness turns up with a huge shout, while my selection Dinoblue took the Mares' Chase over half-a-mile further.

With Jonbon not showing at HQ and El Fabiolo running no kind of race Captain Guinness could do no more than take advantage, which he did with aplomb. This might be a tougher ask though, with the JP McManus-owned, Willie Mullins-trained Dinoblue in fine fettle and seemingly at home at this distance and a tad further.

She's won here before and can do so again on Tuesday.

18:00 - Monty's Star @ 5/2

Rachael and Henry combine once again, and Monty's Star is exactly that. The seven-year-old Walk In The Park gelding ran the brilliant Fact To File to less than 4l in the Brown Advisory at Chelters, and won here at around this trip in December.

His nemesis in the Cotswolds is as short as around 4/1 for next year's Gold Cup so Monty's run was a tremendous effort. Spillane's Tower will have his supporters but I wouldn't swop Ms Blackmore's mount for any in the field.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £176 for your total £7.50 stake.
