Lucky 15

Greetings, dear reader. Back from a little pre-Chelters refresher, kept company throughout by the damp, persistent, biblical offerings from the skies. Oh joy.

Anyway - two weeks today the eyes of the world will be on Cheltenham, a gorgeous, fragrant spa town that each mid-March becomes a pulsating home for high-octane National Hunt championship racing.

Everything from here is a warm-up; starting with Tuesday's Lucky 15 suggestion, (Feb 27th), which comes courtesy of a nine-race bonanza on Southwell's all-weather Tapeta surface.

We were in very decent form when I disappeared briefly, both mid-week and with our ITV Saturday selections, so fingers are firmly crossed, as always.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £616 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips Tuesday

Southwell

  • 18.00 - Torrent @ 3/1
  • 18.30 - Tees George @ 11/4
  • 20.00 - Bristol Hill @ 5/2
  • 20.30 - Spring Romance @ 17/2

18.00 - Torrent @ 3/1

Oisin Murphy rides this 3-yr-old Camelot colt for trainer Andrew Balding.

Two respectable runs as a juvenile, and on seasonal reappearance at Wolves over 12 furlongs 17 days ago showed ability before fading late. Will know more now on handicap debut, and might just be on a fair opening mark (75).

18.30 - Tees George @ 11/4

Basement 7f handicap with an ultra-competitive look to it.

The selection is trained by Trotter Nicholls in North Yorkshire, and won at the trip in September last. Reappearing at Newcastle 19 days ago the 4-yr-old gelding ran really well to be close-up off a mark of 57, and that's unchanged today.

Nicholls is not reaching out to a claimer, and Paddy Mathers retains the ride. He might just be on the improve, and find that little bit extra required for a win today.

20.00 - Bristol Hill @ 5/2

Murphy again, this time for fairly local trainer Kevin Frost.

Bristol Hill is a 6-yr-old gelding who's slipped to an attractive mark (55). The booking of former champ Murphy looks very promising, and when you consider the likes of Billy the Kid and Rossa Ryan have been on board before we can see that the horse is well regarded at this modest level.

Thoroughly decent effort at this kind of middle-distance trip 10 days ago and any repeat puts him bang there.

20.30 - Spring Romance @ 17/2

The mighty Rossa Ryan rides for Mick Appleby.

Spring Romance is a 9-yr-old veteran who's won here before. Versatile trip-wise, he's another who is on a dangerously-lenient mark, should he rediscover some old sparkle.

He's off 53 today, and needless to say I like the booking of Rossa. He's at an each-way kind of price and as we're paying four places I'm going to have a modest little e/w flutter on this one too.

If you're playing today, have fun, and enjoy. Great to be back!
