Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

So ended a fantastic weekend of racing, with Cheltenham implications aplenty. We had winners in both our ITV piece and Lucky 15 feature, so kick-off a new week in great heart.

It's November 26 already, and for Tuesday's Lucky 15 tips let's visit Sedgefield, in Stockton-on-Tees. The six-race action starts at 12:55. I've never been, keep promising myself a trip, and it looks to be a glorious, rural National Hunt venue. One day ...

Lucky 15 Tips - Tuesday, November 26

Sedgefield

  • 12:55 - Mr Escobar @ 8/15
  • 13:25 - Bathgate @ 7/2
  • 14:30 - Laser Focus @ 5/2
  • 15:30 - Moonbow @ 7/1

Today's Horse Races

12:55 - Mr Escobar @ 8/15

I'm fearing the skinny price but if it gets us off to a flyer, we can hopefully appreciate the logic.

The peerless Willie Mullins raids with this respectable dual-purpose six-year-old gelding, and Brian Hayes will be doing the steering. Second in a Listowel maiden hurdle in September (to a stablemate), then sixth at Naas in a valuable 2m handicap on the level 44 days ago, Mr Escobar is sure to strip fit and be very difficult to beat.

13:25 - Bathgate @ 7/2

The last twice this four-year-old gelding has all but broken his duck, and with performances pretty much up there with anything he's achieved in his nine starts to date.

Bathgate joined current trainer Phil Kirby in June and arrived with a cumbersome handicap mark of 101. He's on a much more realistic 93 right now, down a pound from last time at Ayr over slightly further, and I feel strongly that his time is close at hand.

Claimer Joe Williamson takes off a handy 3lb and rode a winner for the yard less than a fortnight ago.

14:30 - Laser Focus @ 5/2

A six-year-old Sea The Stars gelding who's on a roll right now, seeking a hat-trick this afternoon.

His last two wins have been pretty facile affairs, and we'll see what he's made of now all right off a mark of 115 - those two aforementioned successes were achieved off 95!

Hugely promising HQ handler James Owen trains, and regular claiming pilot (5lb) Ben Bromley is in the plate. Stepping up a touch to staying tests seems to have been the making of Laser Focus and he might just be able to make some more hay before the assessor finally anchors him.

15:30 - Moonbow @ 7/1

A bumper (National Hunt flat race) to end proceedings, and a selection trained about 40 miles south by Patrick Neville.

Moonbow is a four-year-old Spanish Moon gelding who won his Point-to-point in May fairly comfortably, and has just joined Patrick, known for his exploits with The Real Whacker among others.

This is evidently a very nice type and whatever happens today the race should be highly informative. Gavin Sheehan is a fantastic jockey booking, and fingers crossed it's an indicator of the ability being shown at home, quite apart from that very encouraging point success.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £265 for your total £7.50 stake.

Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.
