Lucky 15 Tips: From the Albany to Beverley for Karl

In amongst the Ascot magic I popped up a Newmarket Lucky 15 on Saturday and three of our selections won (advised 2/1, 2/1, 7/2), which is most gratifying. More of the same this week would be grand - and we did pretty well at the Royal meeting, too.

Tuesday's Lucky 15 tips come from Beverley, one of my favourite tracks to visit, with their seven-race card getting underway at 14:15. If you've never been, do try - it's lovely.

14:45 - Hope Queen @ 1/1

Trainer Karl Burke lifted the G3 Albany Stakes with Venetian Sun last week at the Royal meeting and fields another two-year-old filly here in the shape of Hope Queen.

This daughter of sire-of-the-moment Night Of Thunder out of an Invincible Spirit mare makes her debut in this 7.5f heat, and that yardage over this stiff terrain is worth a mile+ at most venues so she's probably showing plenty of resolution at home, fingers crossed - because this will certainly be a testing examination.

Cliff Lee, fresh from that glittering success in Berkshire, has the riding assignment.

15:15 - Dr Rio @ 11/4

The other end of the experience spectrum now - a nine-year-old French-bred veteran, a course-and-distance scorer to boot, who ran really well here 27 days ago.

Dr Rio finished a length second over a shorter distance than today's 1m 4f, but he seems very versatile in terms of trip. He goes well for claimer Zak Wheatley and is off the same mark as last time, 60.

It's his fourth run since making his seasonal reappearance in April and each one has been a step up on the previous effort. A smidge more here and he might just get his head in front once again (last win was here in September, off 61, at 10f).

What a credit to connections.

15:45 - Spioradalta @ 4/1

This five-year-old gelding is trained by Mark Walford about 40 miles north-west at Sheriff Hutton, real North Yorkshire horse racing country.

Spioradalta is four-from-34 in career terms, but the last of those successes was only last month, at Ripon, when winning on a slight class drop off a mark of 68. He's since run respectably in a hot York handicap and gets 5lb claimer Rhys Elliott this afternoon, off 72.

If Rhys proves an inspired booking he's therefore bang in winning territory ratings-wise, and somewhat surprisingly a first trip to Beverley might just be a profitable one.

16:15 - Special Ghaiyyath @ 6/5

The Middleham Moor yard of Charlie Johnston is flying along just now (29% strike-rate in the last fortnight) and he saddles a three-year-old gelded son of a former Godolphin-trained Eclipse and Juddmonte International-winning sire in this; a horse looking for win number one after seven mainly very sound efforts in novice and maiden company.

This looks an ordinary and highly winnable heat, and after appearing not to relish the step up to 10f last time he gets a reprieve down to 8.5f this afternoon.

Special Ghaiyyath has had just that one recent spin (17 days ago) since being gelded and I'm now looking for a typically feisty, power-packed performance here in the style of so many from the stable down the years.

He's too well bred in my book to be ordinary, carries the famous silks of Jaber Abdullah, and needs to find his feet. He's drawn in the two box - how about making all, under the excellent Connor Beasley?

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
