Lucky 15 Tips: Local Tuer raider should be in his element

I hope everyone had a pleasant Easter weekend - both the ITV and Lucky 15 pieces yielded winners on Saturday, so we start the week in very reasonable nick.

Looking at Tuesday's action I'm drawn, for a lovely change, to Thirsk; a beautiful North Yorkshire racecourse that provides exciting flat racing and a place I've been lucky enough to visit on many occasions down the years. All kicks off at  16:20, and there are eight races. Can't wait.

17:30 - Teroomm @ 11/8

A twice-raced three-year-old Iffraaj colt (one win) comes up from Newmarket with Silvestre De Souza booked to do the steering. I'm in!

Teroomm is in the care of Roger Varian and had one solid outing at two, finishing a close fourth at Kempton in November. Reappearing for the season at Bath 18 days ago he justified odds-on with little fuss over this 1m trip, and the third has gone on to be thwarted only by a short-head in a Brighton novice.

He races in the familiar silks of Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum and can follow-up this evening.

18:00 - Highland Olly @ 5/2

This four-year-old gelding makes the short 15 mile hop from Grant Tuer's Birkby base, looking to build upon an encouraging reappearance second at Redcar 15 days ago.

Regular pilot Harrison Shaw was on top then and retains the mount today, as Highland Olly seeks career win number two, from what will shortly be 14 spins.

'Olly' just about ran right up to his best last time, in this grade, but at 7f. He gets a mile today for the first time and given the manner of his resolute finishing effort on the coast it might be just what's required.

His sire was arguably best at 7f but ran Night Of Thunder to under 2l in the G1 Lockinge at Newbury (1m) and now he's turned four that extra slice of maturity is likely to help him settle and get the trip nicely. Big shout.

18:30 - Swift Salian @ 7/4

David and Nicola Barron have had a couple of winners in recent days and I'm hoping that another is firmly on the horizon.

Swift Salian is a four-year-old gelded son of Holy Roman Emperor - a pretty consistent type who doesn't get his head in front perhaps quite as often as he should.

Last time nine days ago at Musselburgh on seasonal reappearance in a £10k to the winner affair he was beaten just two lengths, and is entitled to strip fitter today for that run.

He's performed well here in the past and Connor Beasley is one of many to have ridden him previously. Popping out again just nine days after that encouraging pipe-opener is another positive for me. David Barron - legend.

19:00 - Titainium @ 9/2

Middle-distance Class 4 handicappers line-up for what looks a super-competitive heat.

The selection Titainium is a four-year-old Bated Breath gelding with two successes from a dozen starts. Last time at Redcar, making his seasonal bow over 10f, he was beaten less than 2l and it's a bold move to step him up to a mile-and-a-half.

His sire was a classy 6f sprinter, and he's out of an unraced mare by Toronado (a G1 miler). Let's hope connections have seen enough to believe the stretch out is what's needed.

It's another in the care of local trainer Grant Tuer, and Sam James has the riding assignment.
