Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

My tipping week begins here as per, and it's great to report that last time out five of our Saturday selections, including two winners, all showed a return on suggested support; plus two others did the business in the Lucky 15 piece, ensuring a small profit.

Excellent weekend then, and we'll try to maintain that momentum by visiting Lingfield's nine-race Polytrack card for Tuesday's Lucky 15 tips. The action kicks in at 11:10.

Lucky 15 Tips - Tuesday, November 19

Lingfield

  • 11:10 - Shaad @ 3/1
  • 11:40 - Sweet Couture @ 11/4
  • 12:40 - H Key Lails @ 5/1
  • 13:40 - Charmaine @ 5/2

Today's Horse Races

11:10 - Shaad @ 3/1

Three-year-old Gleneagles gelding; decent second last week after an 111-day break.

That run came at Southwell, over 1m 6f, and he gets a step up to 2m today. Tried 1m 5f here in July off a mark of 56, and after a tardy start didn't quite manage to get into the thick of it.

He's down to 52 now, and has a 5lb claimer on board, Warren Fentiman, who's had a couple of winners in the last ten days. James Owen, more noted for his jumpers, trains at Newmarket, and at this lowly level Shaad looks like a winner waiting to happen.

It's an apprentice contest and half of Warren's rivals in the saddle are looking for their very first success, so experience isn't plentiful. Great chance in my book.

11:40 - Sweet Couture @ 11/4

A proper two-year-old combo, trainer George Boughey and jockey Billy Loughnane, join forces once again with this daughter of ace sprinter Dandy Man.

Sweet Couture has had one run, back in mid-September, finishing a very respectable close-up fourth over 7f, staying on. Billy was in the plate that day too, so the continuity is there. She gets an extra furlong today which on breeding you wouldn't be sure about (all speed on the dam's side, too).

However, looking at Kempton it seems sure to suit and I expect her to come with a late, well-timed run up the short straight. The trainer is operating at a 25% strike-rate over the past fortnight, and her jockey is rarely without a winner for long (last successful a whole four days ago).

Has a Newcastle entry at weekend but seemingly prefers this engagement, unless planning a quick potential reappearance.

12:40 - H Key Lails @ 5/1

Another of my favourite jocks, David Probert, rides this one for Epsom trainer Michael Attwater.

H Key Lails is an experienced four-year-old handicapper who is very much knocking on the door of late. He's been second the last twice at Chelmsford at this mile trip and in the grade, beaten by fractions only.

He's creeping up in the weights as a consequence of this admirable consistency but the Racing Post ratings being returned are pretty much as good as at any time in his career.

He's run well here before in a couple of previous visits and that recent Chelmsford stuff should really help right now as I see it as a sterner finishing test than Lingers, and if the same fortitude can be shown here whilst evidently in such great nick a welcome success, the first since February, can be achieved.

First time D Probert has been booked too, and he did us a good turn by getting a dead-heater up at Wolves on Saturday.

13:40 - Charmaine @ 5/2

The excellent Danny Muscott rides for the equally capable James Fanshawe.

Charmaine is a three-year-old filly by Camelot out of a Duke Of Marmalade mare - bred to go a bit then, and looks sure to appreciate this step up to 10f.

In three runs so far she's proved to be nicely progressive, winning narrowly last time 60 days ago at Kempton in a filles' stakes heat over a mile. After a nice little break she reappears here at what should be a more advantageous trip given her parentage and looks sure to give famous ownership group the Elite Racing Club a lovely run for their money.

This opening handicap mark of 78 doesn't look excessive, her trainer is one of the best around, and she's got to have a smashing chance in a modest but nevertheless fascinating little contest.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p Win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £370 for your total £7.50 stake.
