Lucky 15

Cheltenham may have disappeared over Cleeve Hill for another year but racing gallops on with intent aplenty. The new Flat season starts in earnest at Doncaster with the Lincoln Handicap on Saturday, and it's not long before our attention will turn to Aintree. Never a dull moment.

As far as Tuesday goes, we've got jumping action from Exeter and Wetherby, with all-weather flat racing from Wolverhampton on their Tapeta surface. There's a seven-race card at Dunstall Park, with reasonable field sizes, so it will provide the setting for our Tuesday Lucky 15 tips.

Tuesday Lucky 15 tips

  • 17.30 Wolverhampton - Lady Of Spain @ 5/6
  • 18.30 Wolverhampton - Acturian @ 4/1
  • 19.30 Wolverhampton - Split Elevens @ 13/2
  • 20.00 Wolverhampton - Lough Leane @ 10/11

17.30 Wolverhampton - Lady Of Spain @ 5/6

A three-year-old novice stakes race over 8.5f, and a selection trained by Newmarket handler Roger Varian.

His Phoenix Of Spain filly has had one run - a win here in late December. She was impressive, under today's rider Raul Da Silva, and though receiving a fairer sex allowance today it's offset by the penalty carried for that 4l triumph.

She beat mainly colts and geldings last time and bids to do similar on Tuesday. The form of her win is working out nicely too - the runner-up has scored two runs later at Kempton over a trip, and the third has been placed.

Her familiarity at this niche 8.5f distance is another plus as she bids to stay unbeaten in the foothills of what could be a very promising career.

18.30 Wolverhampton - Acturian @ 4/1

George Rooke rides for Richard Hughes, and here's another with a solitary run - and win - in their career thus far.

This three-year-old has an early-closing entry in a very handsomely-endowed Gowran Park contest in June, and has undoubted ability. His novice win was over a mile at Kempton, beating a previous winner trained by Marco Botti. Acturian was 50/1 on that occasion, but had been nibbled in from 80s.

He's been penalised 7lb for his win which makes life more difficult but apart from the winning form shown he's well drawn in the two box as well. He'll need to have improved but that's extremely likely, on just his second spin.

19.30 Wolverhampton - Split Elevens @ 13/2

Experienced six-year-old handicapper, at around 7/8f.

John Butler trains, and Cam Hardie gets the leg up for the first time. Split Elevens is a course-and-distance scorer, and last won off a mark of 62 about 12 months ago. He races off 54 on Tuesday, and has indicated on his last two runs that his turn could be close at hand.

In fact he's been beaten fairly narrowly on his last five starts and off 54, his lowest mark for over two years, this consistency can be rewarded.

20.00 Wolverhampton - Lough Leane @ 10/11

Another in fine form, beating our previous selection in early February in fact.

Lough Leane is up to a career-high mark of 65, having been penalised once again after rattling up a quick-fire hat-trick in the last six weeks or so. The four-year-olds Cityscape gelding is in prime nick just now but instead of reaching for a claimer to offset the rise, trainer David Simcock has engaged crack Irish jockey Ben Coen to do the steering.

Demands another career-high but in this current mood, why not?

We had bags of joy at Cheltenham last week, so let's hope we can carry this decent form into this new week. If you're playing, have fun, and good luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £197 for your total £7.50 stake.
