Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

Great for the column that our headline horse won in Ireland on Saturday (Green Impact, returned 5/2) but our companion ITV piece for once just didn't fly. A new week for me at least begins then on Tuesday, and we're heading to Newmarket-by-the-sea - that's Yarmouth.

A seven-race card kicks in at 14:35 and it's blessed to have several of the game's top pilots in attendance. Here then we have our Lucky 15 tips for Tuesday, September 17.

Lucky 15 Tips, Tuesday

Yarmouth

  • 15:05 - Midnight Thunder @ 5/4
  • 16:05 - Sniper's Eye @ 7/2
  • 16:35 - Rosy Affair @ 7/2
  • 17:40 - Kurimu @ 5/2

Today's Horse Races

15:05 - Midnight Thunder @ 5/4

A two-year-old Kodiac colt in Godolphin blue, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, and ridden by Oisin Murphy.

Lots to like already then - and throw in a close second then an emphatic win in his two starts to date and it's very easy to get interested. He gets six furlongs strongly but has a penalty to overcome, which brings another Godolphin horse Al Misbar right into the equation.

It's a fascinating heat and I'm hoping that Midnight Thunder will just be too powerful at the business end.

16:05 - Sniper's Eye @ 7/2

The first of our Silvestre De Sousa selections.

Sniper's Eye is a fairly consistent four-year-old Expert Eye gelding in the care of Dave Simcock at Newmarket. He takes a slight drop here into a Class 4, and that might be enough to spark a revival.

That and the booking of Silvestre, on top for the first time, might just work the oracle as he's been pretty highly tried so far and gets some welcome respite today.

16:35 - Rosy Affair @ 7/2

One of racing's most fruitful partnerships - trainer George Boughey and jockey Billy Loughnane - combine for this 6f sprint.

The three-year-old Havana Grey filly is fabulously consistent, never running a bad race from seven lifetime spins to date. She's won three, and been second on the other occasions; quite some record.

She's still in a Listed race on Friday at Ayr but this assignment looks eminently within her compass. Rosy Affair is my idea of the best bet on the card.

17:40 - Kurimu @ 5/2

Silvestre again, this time on a three-year-old sprint filly in the care of his pal Chris Dwyer, for whom he's had plenty of success down the years.

Kurimu has been running with credit at predominantly six furlongs but has tended to fade of late close home. She gets a step down to five today and that might just be the ticket.

This jockey knows her well, including when scoring at Donny off a mark of 59 in June, and she's just 3lb higher today, courtesy of some consistent, creditable recent efforts in defeat.

It's actually 5f and 42 yards, but it can still help her to score again for the brilliant Brazilian former three-time champion jockey.

If you're playing take care, have fun as always, and good luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £220 for your total £7.50 stake.
