Lucky 15

Courtesy of the arctic blasts racing is limited to all-weather fare today, but we've three cracking meetings.

Dundalk over in Ireland; alongside Wolverhampton, and Newcastle. We had a winner and two seconds yesterday, so a bit unfortunate but very firmly on the premises.

Six intriguing races at Wolves today, so that's where I'm going for our Lucky 15.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £590 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips Tuesday

Wolverhampton

  • 13.25 - Beauzon @ 2/1
  • 14.30 - Budding @ 11/2
  • 15.05 - Pessoa @ 10/3
  • 15.40 - Inexplicable @ 9/2

13.25 - Beauzon @ 2/1

This one won off a mark of 55 here on Jan 7th, followed up off 60 five days later, and bids for a quick-fire hat-trick today now raised to 65.

Trainer Ian Williams has the 5-yr-old gelding purring at the minute and try as I might I've failed to find one to lower his colours today. If the trainer had doubts one assumes a good claimer would have been booked to reduce the burden, but Ian's gone for the excellent David Probert.

Two years ago he won off 75 at Lingfield, so in-form and evidently in great heart he can make another bold bid today.

14.30 - Budding @ 11/2

An eight-and-a-half-furlong test for maidens, all of whom are 3-yr-olds.

Budding is a nicely-bred Cracksman filly trained by Hughie Morrison and ridden by the splendid Harry Davies. Only two spins so far, both at Kempton, showing plenty of promise.

David Egan and Billy Loughnane have ridden her so far which says to me that the filly is highly-rated, and she's shown undoubted promise. This is a very nice little contest and Budding can put her best foot forward at Dunstall Park this afternoon.

15.05 - Pessoa @ 10/3

I saw this one win just 4 days ago here in the Midlands, finishing really well after being held up. Adrian Wintle's gelding has a 5lb penalty to overcome but I loved the finishing burst shown and I think Finley Marsh, on top for his last couple, can employ similar tactics in admittedly this slightly higher grade.

Fascinating, cracking little heat for me, with Rossa Ryan on a consistent Ed Dunlop raider and any number of dangers. But I loved that decisive kick the last day, as my colleague Owen and most of Ireland would say. Can't wait for this one - race of the afternoon for me.

15.40 - Inexplicable @ 9/2

The excellent Harry Russell rode Tathmeen, one of our selections, at Wolves yesterday for this trainer (Anthony Brittain). He failed by an agonising neck, and gets another dart to fire for the North Yorkshire handler in the shape of Inexplicable.

In April this Dark Angel gelding won here off 53, and reappeared after a freshening-up break (74 days) on Jan 9th with a promising effort at Southwell. Denied by just a length, he's entered here on Friday too but takes his chance this afternoon off 46, just a week after that excellent run.

His shrewd handler feels, hopefully, that he's back to something like that spring form, and if so will be mightily competitive off this mark today.

Enjoy.
