Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

Greetings, dear reader, from the other side of my little midsummer break. So much to talk about on the sporting front, not least that Chelsea are apparently the best club football team on the planet. Who knew?

As for racing, I can't think of a better place to resume our Lucky 15 tips on Tuesday than beautiful Beverley. Their six-race card kicks in at 14:30 with Cliff Lee and Arc-winner Luke Morris among the notable jocks on parade. All roads at this point lead to the likes of the King George - Goodwood - Galway - and York. It's great to be back!

14:30 - Dunkeld Dreamer @ 7/4

Never take much persuading to get involved with a Karl Burke-trained two-year-old filly in a nursery, so here we are!

This Irish-bred youngster has had three outings in novice and maiden company, including last time out here at Beverley. Dunkeld Dreamer was always travelling in rear on that occasion but with experience both of this idiosyncratic track, and those three spins standing her in good stead, there's every reason to be optimistic about this afternoon.

She's the daughter of a Hannon-trained sprinter who took G3 honours at 6f, and her dam is by Sea The Stars, for that added stamina influence. Today's 7.5f should be ideal and I'm very hopeful.

Carries the colours of the prolific Nicki Bradley Racing, in conjunction with the trainer's wife Elaine, and jockey Sam James is in the plate.

15:30 - Time Tells All @ 6/1

Time for a more experienced type now with a five-year-old Sea The Stars gelding in the care of Declan Carroll at Malton, in North Yorkshire.

Time Tells All has appeared on 16 occasions and is frustratingly still waiting for that elusive first success. Having sunk to a career-low handicap mark of 62, and trying basement Class 6 company for only the second time, I'm hoping that the lengthy drought is about to come to an end.

Last time out Chester's unique contours might not have suited ideally, and the time before (June 10) he was beaten just a length at Catterick off 63, over 12f; and didn't enjoy the smoothest of passages in the home straight.

It's 2f less this afternoon but the horse is very familiar with the trip and this really does look like a good opportunity. Zak Wheatley claims a handy 3lb and knows the horse well.

16:30 - Charging Thunder @ 11/4

Few go to post but a fascinating little Class 3 clash nevertheless, at the extreme trip of 2m.

Charging Thunder ran a blinder at Newcastle last time 17 days ago in the Northumberland Plate at just in excess of this distance, beaten 3.25l in third under today's pilot Harry Davies.

Main rival Pole Star is yet to travel this far but has solid form at 1m 6f. The three-year-old Johnston colt is up 5lb for a narrow score at Haydock 10 days ago and our selection, though now seven, has no issues whatsoever with this yardage.

Newmarket's James Owen has had the War Command gelding in his care since September last and his ten-from-44 career wins record is exceptionally good (it also includes a couple of successes over hurdles, and he's been placed on 13 occasions, too).

17:00 - Lastchancezouloon @ 11/2

In the lucky last our selection is a three-year-old Zoustar filly in the care of another North Yorkshire master (Richard Fahey), looking to break her duck after four career spins to date.

Lastchancezouloon made her handicap debut at Carlisle 29 days ago and was beaten just over a length, running on nicely, at around this trip. Same mark today (62), and that last effort can be marked up a touch for me as it was achieved on soft ground.

Her Australian sire never ran on anything worse than good in his illustrious career, and the advertised good-to-firm could be right up her street. Nice draw in the four box, and Cam Hardie has the riding assignment.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £530 for your total £7.50 stake.
