Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

A new week for me and our Lucky 15 feature, which very often at least wipes its face, as they say, and generates a return given that we mercifully (and frequently) have winners.

I'm going to the all-weather well again, and I'll ignore the three heats that one of my colleagues has weighed up in an adjoining piece. So here we go for our Lucky 15 tips on Tuesday, November 12. The action kicks in on the Tapeta at 17:00 - and there are eight races.

Today's Horse Races

18:00 - Monopolise @ 5/2

A Loughnane family enterprise. Count me in.

The brilliant Billy rides for Dad David, on a four-year-old Showcasing gelding who won last time eight days ago. That was at Kempton; a fairly comfortable success over a mile. He drops to 7f here but on this much stiffer track that should translate nicely.

Monopolise has run at Southwell once before, at a mile, and didn't get home so this 7f should indeed be spot-on. He's off 67 today, up 5lb for that last-time-out success, but 18 months ago was running (and winning) off 75 at Yarmouth.

Shrewd trainer, fabulous jock, big chance in my book.

18:30 - Cressida Wildes @ 11/4

The betting is hinting that this two-year-old Showcasing filly has got a Rossa Ryan-ridden rival to beat - and I think she's likely to do just that.

Cressida Wildes is with Phil McEntee, and Jason Hart rides. She's had five runs, all for Charlie Fellowes, and at some pretty lofty tracks. She joined Phil only a matter of days ago, and indeed changed owner, presumably with a winter all-weather campaign in mind.

This is her first foray on an artificial surface but form shown at the likes of Newmarket, Newbury and Chester, including in Listed company, has confirmed she's got ability.

What better time to show it than first up, for her new connections. Might just be a cut above these.

20:00 - Sugar Hill Babe @ 6/1

Jockey Lewis Edmunds rides for trainer Lisa Williamson.

Sugar Hill Babe is a four-year-old filly with a course-and-distance win under her belt. Scored last time off a mark 70 in slightly lower grade, and has been hiked up 4lb; but it was a career-best display that day and she looks well worth the upgrade.

20:30 - Something @ 13/8

Those of a certain vintage will immediately think Beatles/George Harrison, or Shirley Bassey (I believe even Eric Clapton did a version) but for us it's an admirable three-year-old Golden Horn gelding who just can't stop winning.

Well, two on the spin is impressive enough, and trainer Jedd O'Keefe switches from another all-weather Tapeta surface in Newcastle to the Midlands track, hoping to maintain the run.

Having appreciated the step up to middle distances he gets an added stretch now to 1m 6f, and everything points to it being well within compass. Something has got a 6lb penalty to overcome but he's an improver for me, and can continue this upward curve on Tuesday night.

The vastly experienced and accomplished Paul Mulrennan will be doing the steering.

If you're playing take care, have fun as always, and good luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £300 for your total £7.50 stake.
