Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

My last Lucky 15 foray was Saturday's card at Kempton, and for a second successive day we gave two good winners. We enter the new week in very decent nick then, and for our Lucky 15 tips for Tuesday I'm looking to a generous eight-race card at Newcastle on the all-weather.

I've been to Gosforth Park on numerous occasions and enjoyed a night out locally afterwards, too - it's a great city for socialising. The action kicks in at 16:50 on September 10.

Today's Horse Races

Lucky 15 Tips, Tuesday

Newcastle

  • 16:50 - Sheila's Well @ 4/1
  • 19:00 - Classic Encounter @ 7/1
  • 19:30 - Jackson Street @ 11/2
  • 20:30 - Bateman @ 13/2

Horse Racing Odds

16:50 - Sheila's Well @ 4/1

The brilliant Silvestre De Sousa has a few interesting-looking chances on the card, and this is one of them.

Sheila's Well is with Grant Tuer in North Yorkshire and tries the sand for the first time. Reasonably experienced for a two-year old (the Saxon Warrior filly is having her seventh career start), the jockey booking can make all the difference in my view as she's shown plenty of promise so far without quite hitting the back of the net.

19:00 - Classic Encounter @ 7/1

This one has a lay-off to overcome, but is from a top yard.

Classic Encounter bids to defy a 265-day absence for trainer George Boughey and 5lb claimer Tommie Jakes. The three-year-old Shamardal gelding showed plenty of promise for Charlie Appleby before joining George last month, and can get competitive in what looks like a good Class 5 handicap.

19:30 - Jackson Street @ 11/2

Silvestre again, for the shrewd HQ-handler Dylan Cunha.

The three-year-old Dandy Man gelding is getting back to something like the levels he's hit earlier in the year and has scope I believe to come on yet further. He races off 72 today, and at the turn of the year his mark was 78.

Jackson Street has been tried over a variety of trips but this 7f seems to suit best. Went mightily close 12 days ago at this trip/grade at Chelmsford.

20:30 - Bateman @ 13/2

Another three-year-old, a Ten Sovereigns gelding, who won off a pound higher at Carlisle in the summer (you remember it - that balmy solitary day in July).

Bateman is another North Yorkshire resident, this time with Gemma Tutty, and nearly took a contest two levels above this here in July, failing by less than 2l off a 2lb higher mark.

Two ordinary turf efforts have followed but back on Tapeta looking decently-handicapped on that last visit, and with his young pilot's claim, surely he can go extremely close.

Today has an each-way flavour to it given the nature of our selections so that's exactly the way I'm going to lean; and our last two contests benefit from the scenario of paying four places e/w.

If you're playing take care, good luck, and above all have fun.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £880 for your total £7.50 stake.
