Lucky 15 Tips: Echoes of Mill Reef at Dunstall Park on Tuesday

Welcome to Grand National week, dear reader; and to a brand new month. From Thursday we've got three fantastic days at Aintree, culminating in the big one at 16:00 on Saturday. In the meantime let's enjoy some great stuff en route, starting with Wolverhampton on Tuesday late afternoon/evening, and a seven-race card on the Tapeta that provides our Lucky 15 tips.
Action kicks in at 17:25 and Oisin Murphy has got just one booked ride - a three-year-old colt by a Derby winner, trained by Andrew Balding, racing in the Mill Reef colours now used by Kingsclere Racing club, and that's been second twice from three career starts. Do I fancy it? Do bears do stuff in woodland areas, allegedly?
Lucky 15 Tips - Tuesday, April 1
Wolverhampton
18:30 - Nobleman @ 2/5
The aforementioned Oisin Murphy conveyance, looking to lose his maiden tag, over 1m 4f.
Nobleman is by underrated Derby winner Sir Percy, who also won the Dewhurst at two and was second in the 2000 Guineas. This particular son is incredibly unlikely to get anywhere near to scaling such heights, but this does look an eminently achievable assignment.
Last time out 27 days ago at Kempton the three-year-old colt failed by a nose, and it was 6l back to the third. He's top-rated of the trio to have run and he'd be extremely unlucky in my book to 'bump into one' here. His three career starts have been nicely progressive and the yard has been among the winners in recent weeks.
I believe Oisin is a resident of the Lambourn area, a mere 100 mile or so jaunt up his motorway of choice, a journey I fully expect to see rewarded with a '1' by the colt's name at around 18:35.
I know it's potentially super-skinny but it might just drift a touch from the prohibitive price it's likely to be early doors.
19:30 - Kamekist @ 2/1
A three-year-old Kameko gelding now, travelling 6f in a Class 5 handicap.
The selection is trained by Eve Johnson Houghton in Oxfordshire, and will be ridden by Charles Bishop. Kamekist is having his third start all-time, and drops in trip from 7f the last day on this course, when looking to not quite get home.
It's a very ordinary affair, the stable had a winner a few days ago, and though on breeding he should get further it looks a smart move to try this sprint trip for the first time. Charles needs to get the fractions right and deliver him just at the most opportune moment.
20:00 - Rogue Thunder @ 4/1
A five-year-old Night Of Thunder gelding now that might just be nicely handicapped.
Rogue Thunder lines up off a mark of 50 here, as he did 21 days ago at this course he loves so much when a running-on second, beaten 2l. That was a first try at this 7f trip for a long time, with the 10 spins that preceded it all being over 6f.
He last won off 52 about 15 months ago but he's very consistent and it looks to me that his turn is very close at hand - on Tuesday hopefully.
20:30 - Cerulean Summer @ 6/1
Another in recent fine fettle, but gathering places rather than ascending to the podium's top spot.
Cerulean Summer is with Dylan Cunha at Newmarket and David Egan, winner of Saturday's Brocklesby at Doncaster, takes the mount. The four-year-old Irish-bred filly is a course winner but over a furlong further than today's assignment of just over half a furlong in excess of one mile.
It seems connections are unsure about her best trip and have tried 6f up to a mile-and-a-half. The horse is invariably held up and Egan has been on her back previously. Fingers crossed that he can find a spot and deliver her at the right moment to score tonight.
It's a very tight handicap and I can see this being a thrilling blizzard of heads and necks at the jamstick.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £225 for your total £7.50 stake.
