Lucky 15

One 3/1 winner yesterday, but couldn't manage to improve upon that. Racing today comes from Doncaster, Huntingdon and Thurles, with all-weather meetings at Lingfield, and Newcastle.

Lots of good stuff to enjoy, and less than five weeks to go until the Cheltenham Festival. I'm not sure in the world of sport if there are many more eagerly-anticipated showpiece occasions with such a heightened countdown period.

Anyway - let's enjoy the here and now, as we always do, and so it's to Lingfield we journey for today's Lucky 15 suggestion.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £254 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips Thursday

Lingfield

  • 13.50 - Kinako Mochi @ Evs
  • 15.35 - Foinix @ 5/2
  • 16.10 - Dayman @ 3/1
  • 16.45 - Harb @ 6/1

13.50 - Kinako Mochi @ Evs

A very interesting little novice contest for 3-yr-old fillies, over 7f.

The selection is trained by Roger Varian, and Jack Mitchell is doing the steering. One run to date so far - a very encouraging summer maiden at Kempton over 6f, under David Egan.

Only a Gosden filly finished in front of her, and the Racing Post remarked in their comments that she was an 'eyecatcher.' She's by sire of the moment Siyouni, and holds an Irish 1000 Guineas entry.

Some nice types oppose but she's being backed, and very much looks the part today. Queen Of Zafeen scored on debut but has a 7lb hike to contend with.

15.35 - Foinix @ 5/2

I've napped this one, standing in for Owen for a few days - and the rationale behind this Oisin Murphy-ridden selection can be found right HERE

16.10 - Dayman @ 3/1

A Class 4 one mile handicap, for 4-yr-olds+.

Dayman's last 3 runs have all been over 7f, and the post-race analysis has pointed out the same detail every single time - that he was finishing well from off the pace.

He's tried a mile twice before and appeared not to stay, but as a 5-yr-old now it could be that he's matured to the extent that on an easy-ish, turning, flat surface he needs a mile to get fully wound up.

19 days ago this Oasis Dream gelding was beaten just 1.75l here at Lingers under today's jockey Liam Keniry, and from the 3 box he can smuggle Dayman into the race and strike late.

16.45 - Harb @ 6/1

5f speedsters do battle here over the minimum trip.

Harb is an experienced 5-yr-old gelding and a course-and-distance scorer who's equally adept on the turf. Shane Kelly is often on board and that was the case just over 3 weeks ago, when Harb was a close-up third and Night On Earth was second.

The latter-named re-opposes today and has since won here himself under today's jockey Rossa Ryan. Harb is 5lb better off with that rival, and at the prices represents value in my eyes against what is the likely favourite, despite that weight pull.

An absolutely fascinating contest.

If you're playing - as always, have fun, and enjoy.
