There's an excellent seven-race afternoon card on Lingfield's Polytrack all-weather surface for our entertainment on Thursday, March 7th. A Listed contest is arguably the highlight, and some of the biggest names in our sport are present.

It's an easy choice then to make Lingfield our venue for today's Lucky 15 suggestion, though counter attractions at Wincanton, Carlisle and Newcastle are sure to be equally popular.

Lucky 15 tips Thursday

  • Lingfield 14.15 - Princess In Rome @ 5/1
  • Lingfield 15.20 - Orne @ 5/2
  • Lingfield 16.30 - Moorgate @ 5/2
  • Lingfield 17.05 - Run Joy Run @ 13/2

Lingfield 14.15 - Princess In Rome @ 5/1

A 3-yr-old Michael Bell-trained filly - one run as a 2-yr-old, and on reappearance three weeks ago ran a lovely race to finish a close-up fourth at Southwell (7f).

Looked to have progressed nicely over the winter and claiming jockey Tyler Heard is taking off what might be an important 3lb. The stable had a winner at Kempton the other day and in a fascinating maiden she has a bright chance, at a value price.

Steps up to a mile for the first time and being by Derby hero Masar this looks to be a bare minimum now.

Lingfield 15.20 - Orne @ 5/2

The Gosdens train for Al Shaqab Racing and Rab Havlin, on board for all career starts (4), again takes the mount.

This is a 3-yr-old son of top sprinter Acclamation, but there's outstanding mile pedigree on the dam's side, being out of an Excelebration mare. He's campaigned over 7f and a mile so far and it's back to 7f today.

He's a Group 3 winner (Newmarket, Horris Hill) but that was a back-end, heavy ground affair. Does advertise his class and resilience though, but conditions will be very different today. Has to carry a 5lb penalty courtesy of that HQ success.

Still has a 2000 Guineas entry and adds much to another cracking little heat.

Lingfield 16.30 - Moorgate @ 5/2

Basement-level sprinters, and an experienced 5-yr-old who's won here before.

Moorgate is in the care of Berkshire handler Pat Murphy, and this son of Mastercraftsman ran really well after a little break here over three weeks ago. Late gains left him just 1.75l down at the line, and he'll doubtless be sharper for that spin today.

Won off a mark of 46 in November, and bids for career victory number two off 3lb higher today. Not much room for error then but wily veteran John Egan was up top last time and encouragingly retains the ride, on a horse he knows very well.

Lingfield 17.05 - Run Joy Run @ 13/2

Nice bit of value about this 3yr-old filly, trained by Adam West at Epsom and ridden for the third time by Laura Coughlan, who claims 3lb.

Ten furlongs is the trip, and she tries it for the first time after finishing well at Wolves early last month, over 8.5f. Optimum distance for her sire was arguably 7f, but on that last piece of evidence she looks well worth chancing on this step up.

Laura was successful on her at Kempton in January and looks to repeat from a 3lb higher mark, but it doesn't look the strongest of heats and if she stays she surely goes very close.

If you're playing, have fun, and good luck!

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £600 for your total £7.50 stake.
