Lucky 15 Tips: Double helping of brilliant Billy on Thursday

Trappy midweek fare on the racing front on Thursday, February 6, but fascinating nevertheless. We're heading Southwell way for our Lucky 15 tips, with Billy Loughnane and Rossa Ryan among the jocks taking part.
No Hayley Turner rides are anticipated sadly, at her local track, but I do note that she's booked to steer Andrew Balding's Al Shaqab-owned colt Humam here on Friday for a very nice pot - look forward to seeing that. Action on Thursday though kicks in at 17:00, for an eight-race card.
Lucky 15 Tips - Thursday, February 6
Southwell
17:00 - Carlton @ 4/6
This five-year-old Frankel gelding has really thrived since joining James Owen's Newmarket yard in early December.
Carlton has had five runs for new connections, winning four, and finishing second in the other. His mark has leapt from 48 to today's 68, a remarkable rise for a relatively low-level performer.
His recent successes were at Chelmsford, but that runner-up effort was achieved here, 13 days ago, in a very similar affair. It was 7l back to the third too, and the winner has since run well in a higher grade under a penalty (beaten half a length).
Apprentice find Warren Fentiman has been booked in this claimers' event, and his expertise can prove to be a crucial added factor.
18:00 - Quickly @ 9/2
A novice stakes race now, and a mixed bag age-wise of inexperienced types.
The selection is Quickly, a four-year-old gelding by the tough Soldier Hollow, still a potent force on the track when he was seven. Quickly is trained by Kevin Philippart De Foy at HQ, and will be ridden by Danny Muscutt.
One run so far, which helpfully was here, 39 days ago. Belying odds of 40/1 he was a running-on third, only beaten 3.75l, and the winner has since failed by just a head to follow-up at Kempton.
Track form here is a great boon, and Danny (22% strike-rate in the last 14 days) was on board for that debut run so will know more about his partner for tonight. Fine chance.
18:30 - Northern Cracksman @ 9/4
A four-year-old Cracksman (who else?) gelding, looking to defy a 5lb hike for winning last time at Newcastle in a similar contest.
The tremendous Billy Loughnane was on board then, for the first time, and he's got the riding assignment again this evening. He won cosily with a career-best Racing Post rating 12 days ago and the second that day, Concert Boy, won for us (tipped up in the L15 piece) on Wednesday.
Sound form then, and instead of reaching for an apprentice to offset the penalty connections opt to retain the services of The Kid, which I take as a massive positive.
It's a very tight handicap but Northern Cracksman has run well here before and can go in again. North Yorkshire-based Lawrence Mullaney trains, and in all honesty it was something of a coin toss between this one and Dash Gordon as to who carried my nap hopes.
19:30 - Dash Gordon @ 2/1
I've assessed this one's chances and put him up as my Nap Of The Day in a companion piece - kindly find it right HERE.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £145 for your total £7.50 stake.
