Thursday Lucky 15 Tips: Sending out an SDS

Thursday's action comes from Southwell, Naas, Clonmel and Warwick (all jumps); plus all-weather flat racing from Lingfield and Wolverhampton. Biblical rainfall means the A/W is even more significant, in case waterlogging is a factor, and it's to Wolves we'll go for our Thursday Lucky 15 tips. A bonanza of an eight-race card awaits. A fabulous three-from-four in yesterday's Lucky 15 (11/8, 2/1, and 11/2), so we're in storming nick!

17:30 Wolverhampton - Twoforthegutter @ 7/2

Lancashire-based trainer Chris Kellett trains this four-year-old Expert Eye gelding, and Jason Hart, on board last time, again takes the mount.

That previous spin was here, over 2f shorter than this staying trip, and he was a very creditable third, beaten just 1.5l. It was Twoforthegutter's second start for his new handler, and I'm sure the pair are finding out more about each other with every passing day, and gallop.

He didn't manage to win for former trainer Ian Williams, but this looks a weak basement affair and stepping up to 1m 6f can work the oracle.

18:00 Wolverhampton - Spanish Angel @ 11/4

In-form trainer Ruth Carr (25% strike-rate in the last fortnight) sends a couple on the card from North Yorkshire, both of whom I fancy. Spanish Angel is the first - and this seven-year-old veteran sprinter has run really well in his two 2024 starts, after a nice break of some 160 days beforehand.

Didn't find much off the steel last time here after cruising into contention, and regular pilot James Sullivan takes over from Joanna Mason in the plate. He's off 61 today, and scored off 65 over course-and-distance as recently as last July. Big chance for me, played late.

19:00 Wolverhampton - Woodstock @ 11/2

The second Ruth Carr raider, as promised, a four-year-old Sixties Icon gelding in a tasty 7f handicap.

Woodstock only joined Ruth from the Channons in March, and on stable debut 22 days ago at Newcastle ran a stormer, going down in a flurry of short-heads (4th). 7f round a few bends could suit much better tonight, as they tend to get racing up that tough straight in the north-east plenty soon enough.

Joanna does ride this one, as she did at Gosforth Park, and it could be a red-letter day for new connections.

20:00 Wolverhampton - Coolree @ 9/2

Amy Murphy trains, and the great Silvestre De Sousa rides, making plenty of waves for all the right reasons since returning from Hong Kong.

This one takes a drop in Class from a 5 to a 6, and was a running-on second with a troubled passage last time, over a furlong shorter. SDS is again on top, and what's the odds that he advised the trainer afterwards to pop him up in trip, down in class, and to book him again? Let's hope that was the gist of it!
