Lucky 15 Tips: Four Glorious chances at Goodwood, Thursday

Goodwood Day 3, and the perfect vehicle for Thursday's Lucky 15 tips. We're among the winners this week and there's plenty of racing still to come.

13:20 - Best Secret @ 10/3

Warm 10f handicap, with 18 slated to face the starter.

Getting a clear run at things in the latter stages especially will be key here, but given luck in running I'm very hopeful that Best Secret is up to the task of winning this.

It's another Wathnan-owned conveyance, French-based this time, and the three-year-old Persian King colt could well have won the Golden Gates at the royal meeting but for encountering traffic problems repeatedly up the straight.

Did well in fairness to fail by just a length, off a mark of 95, but the handicapper was certainly paying attention as he must defy 100 today.

It's a fantastic-looking contest but I'm hoping Best Secret was put away after that Ascot spin 40 days ago and the plan since has been exactly this - a lovely prize of just over £50k and another prestigious festival success, which is what Wathnan enjoy so much.

13:55 - Havana Hurricane @ 4/1

Group 2 action in the Richmond, over 6f, for two-year-olds.

My selection Havana Hurricane is enjoying a superb juvenile campaign, and is two-from-four all told including winning the Listed Windsor Castle at the royal meeting.

At Newbury 12 days ago the Havana Gold colt looked to take the richly-endowed Super Sprint and its huge prize, but was denied by a short-head over 5f after coming from another postcode, conceding the winner 5lbs.

It was a terrific effort, and he's got another 200 yards or so to get organised today on a track where he made an impressive winning debut, over the minimum trip, in May - once again doing all his best work at the finish.

This 6f should be right up his street and handsome compensation potentially awaits - plus a £99k payday.

15:05 - Whirl @ 6/5

This is frankly one of the success stories of the season in my book. Just when you think she might be vulnerable or over-faced, bang.

Whirl ran her brilliant stablemate Minnie Hauk to a neck in the Betfred Oaks, after taking the Musidora on the Knavesmire in May, and last time 33 days ago won the G1 Pretty Polly at the Curragh from Kalpana; and we know how that filly made Calandagan pull out all the stops in the King George at weekend.

Two three-year-olds oppose at level weights in this fillies & mares G1 Nassau (good luck with that); and two older horses, conceding 9lb each. Tough ask.

I see this (dangerous statement alert) as a good thing on the card. Nap material, for Aidan, 'the lads,' and Ryan.

16:20 - Victorious One @ 4/1

More juveniles, this time going 7f in the nursery.

Ralph Beckett trains Victorious One from his Kimpton, Hampshire base, and three excellent, consistent runs to date have yielded three seconds. The Siyouni colt made his debut here, in June over a furlong less, and ran on promisingly in the latter stages under today's pilot Rossa Ryan.

Most recently 14 days ago he failed by just a nose to win a maiden at Epsom, and he looks nailed on to win races. Will all that start on Thursday afternoon? In Rossa we trust.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
