Thursday Lucky 15 Tips: Johnston stayer looks the one to be on

Racing on Thursday March 28 comes from Fontwell and Wetherby (jumps), and Southwell (all-weather). The Tapeta meet in Nottinghamshire features a NINE-race card, blessed with some of the biggest names in the industry. It's there we happily journey then for our Lucky 15 tips.

We're nearly done with March, the Festival of course having been the highlight, and April transports us up to Aintree no less, with the National meet taking place between Thurs 11 - Sat 13. The first two days are mini-Cheltenham affairs in their own right, and having been many times down the years I can heartily recommend it. Brilliant atmosphere, a hugely welcoming vibe, and of course sensational horses.

17:00 Southwell - Artisan Dancer @ 15/8

We're kicking off with a course-and-distance scorer representing the powerful Johnston yard, from Middleham Moor.

Artisan Dancer is a consistent and useful staying handicapper who's in rude order right now. His last six runs have been W4W225, and having a liking for the Tapeta is a big plus.

Contested a Class 3 here 18 days ago over 2f less, and drops to a Class 4 this time. Gets an extra 2f too, and as he's run superbly over as far as 2m that too is bang in his favour.

Jason Hart, who knows him very well, is in the plate.

19:30 Southwell - Yaajooz @ 7/4

Billy Loughnane rides for George Boughey - a very potent combo indeed.

Three-year-old 7f handicap, Class 5 - and the gelded son of July Cup winner Ten Sovereigns looks to open his account. A former Charlie Fellows inmate, he joined George after three respectable spins and last time, on handicap and stable debut, he was a close-up second after suffering a troubled passage through the race.

Huge chance for me that the gifted trainer/jockey team can take this little prize on the way to potentially even better things.

20:00 Southwell - One More Dream @ 11/2

Jason Hart rides the selection once again, this time for John and Sean Quinn.

Experienced 6f sprinters line up in this decent Class 4 heat, and One More Dream has won here previously. He's in a terrific run of consistent form since the start of February, winning two and placing also.

The five-year-old has a career-high mark of 79 to defy but raced off it last time at Newcastle, claimer ridden, going down by less than 2l.

20:30 Southwell - Showtime Mahomes @ 5/1

An homage one assumes to the beyond-brilliant Kansas City quarterback and three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick; trained by Grant Tuer in North Yorkshire, and ridden by Sam James.

Another 6f handicap sprint, division two of the prior event, and the selection reappears after a break of some 135 days. He's been exceptionally competitive when fresh previously, and whether on turf or the all-weather the five-year-old gelding has shown plenty of ability, including a York handicap win off 77 under this very pilot.

He runs off a mark of 71 here and both jockey and trainer have struck in recent weeks.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
