Lucky 15

Yesterday's selections ran well without quite troubling the judge (three were placed). Gowran Park, Huntingdon and Wetherby provide Thursday's jumping action, with all-weather racing from Southwell and Newcastle.

Rossa Ryan has an enviable book of rides in Hayley Turner country at Southwell, and it's there we're headed for today's Lucky 15.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £364 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips Thursday

Southwell

  • 12.25 - Trojan Storm @ 9/4
  • 13.00 - The Foxes @ 9/4
  • 14.10 - Inexplicable @ 11/4
  • 15.55 - First Company @ 13/2

12.25 - Trojan Storm @ 9/4

Rossa Ryan for Ian Williams; and a 3-yr-old Ulysses colt who's only just joined Ian from Ralph Beckett.

Rossa was on board for his only run to date, a short-head defeat in a Wolverhampton maiden 12 days ago. He steps up to this 1m 4f middle-distance today and though his illustrious sire was best at ten furlongs he performed with credit when stretching out (won the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood, and placed in the King George and Arc de Triomphe).

Beaten by a Roger Varian inmate at Wolves and probably has a Sir Mark Prescott entry to beat here (Pagliacci) in what's a cracking little contest.

13.00 - The Foxes @ 9/4

King Power-owned 4-yr-old colt; and the clear top-rated participant in this Conditions Stakes race.

Andrew Balding trains, and the excellent David Probert rides. The Foxes is a dual Group-Two scorer but has been off the track since August when contesting the Juddmonte at York no less, a race I was lucky enough to see.

He makes his all-weather debut today but has the class to make his presence felt. Ran in Auguste Rodin's Derby, and tackles 1m 3f which should be ideal. Looking forward to this one.

14.10 - Inexplicable @ 11/4

Was a winning tip for us the other day at Wolves and can follow up today off just 1lb higher. Harry Russell is once again in the plate for trainer Antony Brittain, whose horses are running well at present.

He scored with authority at the Midlands track and immediately prior to that ran a belter here in similar company. Nicely drawn in the three box.

15.55 - First Company @ 13/2

A winner last time at Kempton for trainer Mark Loughnane in the same grade, ridden that day by gifted son Billy. David Probert takes over today, and the horse has a 2lb penalty to overcome.

This is a very experienced 6-yr-old gelding, and that last effort was a real standout. I see in his back catalogue that he won off 95 at Ayr in July '21, and while anno domini has had its say in the meantime today's mark of 64 doesn't look too onerous given this rich recent vein of form.

Good luck if you're playing!
