Thursday Lucky 15 Tips: Frost could be a positive at Southwell

Lucky 15

Our headline horse No News was chinned by a microscopic nose at Kempton yesterday at a returned price of 11/4, so we remain in and around the sharp end of the action.

Doing the 'chinning' was none other than our number one go-to sand magician Billy Loughnane.

Thank goodness for the all-weather, as the arctic blasts have decimated today's expected output (Thursday Jan 18th) . Southwell and Chelmsford mercifully remain, and it's to the Midlands, Hayley Turner country (the great lady is in action too), that we venture for today's Lucky 15.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £535 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips Thursday

Southwell

  • 18.00 - Back From Dubai @ 4/1
  • 19.00 - Higher Law @ 3/1
  • 19.30 - Trulie Good @ 7/2
  • 20.30 - Keen Interest @ 9/2

18.00 - Back From Dubai @ 4/1

We're kicking off with an experienced 7-yr-old gelding who's scored here before and is in grand nick at the minute.

Kevin Frost's Back From Dubai ran here in late December over a mile after a break, and was beaten only just over a length. A trip to Wolverhampton 6 days ago followed over today's 7f distance, and a narrow reverse at the hands of Pessoa.

That winner has since run well under his penalty and PJ McDonald gets the leg-up today. Last time he rode the horse? Nearly two years ago, here, same distance, off a mark of 58. They won, cosily. Today's mark? Guess .... (58). Great chance in my book.

19.00 - Higher Law @ 3/1

Same combo of Frost and McDonald team up here with Higher Law, a 4-yr-old Exceed And Excel gelding who went down by a neck at this trip/grade in November off today's mark of 52.

Two good runs at Wolves have followed, and as these sprinters pop in and out of form I think his turn could be just around the corner - hopefully today.

19.30 - Trulie Good @ 7/2

Trainer Roy Bowring has quite the reputation when it comes to sprint handicappers, and his Trulie Good is expected to be right in the thick of this one.

The 6-yr-old mare narrowly missed out here over 5f thirteen days ago, and steps back up in trip to 6f today. She's relatively lightly-raced and that last improved display rather came out of the blue, at 50/1.

The handicapper rather naughtily put her up a pound for that, but connections have obviously persevered to this point and deserve some success for that faith alone.

20.30 - Keen Interest @ 9/2

Adam Farragher rides for top trainer William Haggas. A 3-yr-old Kodiac gelding out of an Oasis Dream mare, he didn't show on nursery handicap debut last time and is dropped in class today.

My hunch is very much based around the quality of the trainer and very taking breeding. He's done little of note in his 4 runs thus far but isn't flying too high here. Warming, and the aforementioned force of nature B Loughnane, rates the main danger for me.

Enjoy.
