Lucky 15

An authoritative winner and a second yesterday, so we're certainly on the premises as it were. Today's action (Thursday February 15)  is provided by Clonmel, Sandown and Newcastle (jumps), with flat all-weather racing coming from Southwell and Chelmsford.

Seven races feature in the early-evening Essex meet, so that's where we're headed today. Nice to have that 17.30-20.30 window, and though it might not be summer nights at Windsor it happily reminds us that they're not too far away ...

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £230 for your total £7.50 stake.

Lucky 15 tips, Thursday

Chelmsford

  • 18.00 - I'm Mable @ 13/8
  • 18.30 - Tables Turned @ 9/2
  • 20.00 - Sighter @ 9/4
  • 20.30 - Jenson Benson @ 3/1

18.00 - I'm Mable @ 13/8

Jockey Rossa Ryan has had 7 winners in the last fortnight, but none for the last 5 days. I'm backing the quite brilliant, prolific and dedicated pilot to resume winning ways big-style this early evening, as I've selected three of his mounts to oblige; including I'm Mable in this Class 6 sprint.

Rossa has six booked rides on the card, all of which look to have chances. He's greatly sought-after, quite rightly, and is on board Michael Attwater's mare for the first time here. She's a course-and-distance scorer who needs to be finessed and produced to perfection, and for me has dropped to a very tempting mark of 49.

She's run perfectly well off it the last twice, and won on the turf in the summer off 57. I think the Rossa booking is hugely significant, and she can do the business later.

18.30 - Tables Turned @ 9/2

Extreme trip of 2m here, Rossa once more, and a 5-yr-old Ulysses gelding trained by Phil McEntee.

It's a first attempt at this distance, and his sire was arguably most potent at just short of 12 furlongs. He's looked worth a try at it on his last couple of spins though, including here, and at this very modest level why not?

It doesn't look the most competitive of races and if (a big if admittedly) he gets the distance there's every chance of a first career success.

20.00 - Sighter @ 9/4

It's handicap debut day for this Hannon-trained, 3-yr-old Expert Eye filly. Just three runs to date, showing progressive form, and gets the first-class assistance up top from Alec Voikhansky, who claims a handy 5lb.

This is a basement clash and her powerful yard might have found the perfect spot for a confidence-boosting success. 7f trip should be no issue and I'm very hopeful.

20.30 - Jenson Benson @ 3/1

Rossa once again, in the lucky last.

A 6-yr-old gelding trained by Shaun Lycett, 'Jenson' has won over course-and-distance and is on a potential winning mark of 64. Went in this time last year off 67 and under Ryan, again here, has run very well on his last three appearances.

Steps up to 10f after finishing well over 7f and 8f the last twice, and given that Rossa knows the horse well I believe he can resume winning ways tonight.

The stable had a winner at Wolves the other day, partnered by Ryan, and he's being backed this morning as I write this piece (prices can of course fluctuate between now and post-time).

If you're playing, have fun - and good luck.
