Do not use lucky 15

Lovely to be back in the saddle as it were, but I'll be sneaking off to York next week for my favourite meeting of the year - the Ebor Festival. In the meantime Thursday's fare features a nice spread of action both in the UK and in Ireland, with regular readers having no difficulty whatsoever believing that I'm heading to Beverley for my Lucky 15 tips.

Glorious setting, competitive racing, and a dramatic, pulsating run for the line, tailor-made for epic finishes - what more could you ask for? Action starts at 14:00 on Thursday Aug 15.

Lucky 15 Tips Thursday

Beverley

  • 14:35 - Sheila's Well @ 10/3
  • 15:10 - Almanjoor @ 10/3
  • 16:20 - Pfingstberg @ 2/1
  • 16:55 - Whatwouldyouknow @ 13/2

14:35 - Sheila's Well @ 10/3

A two-year-old nursery, and a Saxon Warrior filly who's shown plenty of dash so far in five racecourse appearances.

She gets 7.5f here, and the additional yardage seems likely to suit given she habitually finishes with purpose over 6f and 7f, as evidenced thus far.

Grant Tuer trains and Harrison Shaw rides - with this one being brought out just six days after her last spin, which for me is most encouraging.

Resolute, has some nice experience to fall back on, and Sheila's Well surely has a bright chance in an open-looking heat.

15:10 - Almanjoor @ 10/3

A Richard Fahey conveyance, to be ridden by stable jock Oisin Orr.

Two-year-olds contest this nursery over the minimum 5f trip, and our selection, having been gelded in early July, ran a career-best last time 12 days ago at Donny.  Almanjoor was just half-a-length adrift at the line and in what looks a modest affair can take this, to notch his first success.

16:20 - Pfingstberg @ 2/1

Plenty to like about this four-year-old Protectionist gelding, trained by Dave Simcock, and ridden by Darragh Keenan. Love to hear all our attempts at pronouncing this one!

Pfingstberg is very consistent and has won two races all told - both in the last couple of months. In a career-best last time at Nottingham he prevailed by over 4l, and he's upped 6lb for that romp, understandably. I'm seeing a make-all display here, repelling all would-be boarders.

16:55 - Whatwouldyouknow @ 13/2

The lucky last, and Nigel Tinkler looks to secure a relatively local triumph (he trains around 30 miles away).

Whatwouldyouknow is a veteran nine-year-old gelding who nevertheless remains competitive. His mark has slipped to a tempting-looking 55, and he's been very much on the premises in his last three spins.

The handicapper is sneaking him back up for showing that elements of his ability remain, but he's won here before and I'm hoping that he can do so again.

If you're playing take care, and as always, have fun.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £480 for your total £7.50 stake.
